Title: K04'ed MK6 GTI Driven
Post by: SteveP on 13 November 2010, 20:11
I was invited to take a recently K04'ed Mk6 GTI for a spin today at BBR / GTI Engineering in Brackley.

The dyno results say it was running around 340 ft of torque and 335 bhp, so a nice step up from my Stage 2 car.

The car was also a DSG one but only had a Milltek turbo back exhaust, so immediately felt very different to my slightly more modified car.

Neil at BBR talked me through the conversion / mapping and explained with the right add-ons (i.e. an intercooler and intake) it could be running nearer 350bhp and a bit more torque, but had kept things pretty safe on the fueling and IT's so it could still be used as a daily driver.

From the very start it felt different and as soon as it came on boost it felt very strong. The difference in the way it pulled well past the 6k rpm mark was also very noticeable.

The mid range and the smoothness of the power delivery was really awesome and very much reminded me of my old Mk5 Edition 30.

It also didn't have an of the traits of the original remapping issues of boost control between 1.5 - 3k rpm.

I would certainly have loved to give it a good thrashing with my over mods fitted, as driving a Mk6 GTI with stock brakes and suspend again was quiet an eye opener as to how much difference these do make.

This mod isn't going to be one for people with short arms and deep pockets as on the stock car with the minimum bolt ons of an turbo back exhaust it's going be a lot of money, but if you want to extract the most potential from the TSI lump then this certainly seams to be a good way to do it

Did they do the k04 conversion themselves??? Did the mod the turbo or manifold???

BBR do it all in house including the software.

They modified the turbo housing I believe.
