Is this the bonnet catch in the car to pop the bonnet or the catch to open the bonnet when it's been popped ?  :undecided:

If its the pull handle in the car - then thats just a lever that operates a cable, so ya should be able to strip it off and pull the inner bit of the cable.

If its the catch under the bonnet - then pass!

You need to trace the cable really, it cant have gone far, then when you get it you need to make it taught round something, you could use the broken bonnet catch from inside the car and you need to pull it, there doesnt need to be much play in it if the cable is tight enough, it can take a few goes but it should work. Are you sure the catch is broken and not just unclipped from it's housing ? Sometimes the cables can get a little stretched and you need to feed them back through a bit in order to make them tight. I don't know the setup on a mk3 I'm just going on past experience with other cars but the principle must be the same. If this faills and you cant find the cable then pass, I guess it's taking a bit of the interior panels off in order to fine the damn thing.

I guess you would be able to eventually, but wouldn't you have to have the bonnet open to take the grill off fully ? I've never tried.:undecided: I think you need to find the wire that pops the bonnet unless anyone else has any other ideas.

Ok I once opened a van bonnet like this, might be worth a try!

I used a long slim bar with a small hook on the end with the car up on ramps and i pulled the catch that the cable would normally pull. Not sure if it will work with a golf though. Just something to consider.

The other way is to from underneath, completely unscrew the catch from the bonnet (if its a screw type!), getting access will be hard though.
