My recently acquired Mk3 doesn't open from the outside, the key can't actually get into the barel so I intend on taking it out and deep cleaning it.
How does the barrell pop out? It's a 1996 SE with Central Locking.I've taken the panel off and opened the boot by pulling the silver mechanism, just a bit stuck now!

Pop the boot open and then remove the inner panel which is just held on with clips I believe. You will then see the barrel from inside and they are just usually held on with a clip.

Took the rather rusty circlip off and it's still not coming out...

Mine has a screw on the inside handle thingy* that has to be removed before the inner panel will unclip
* Yes that is a technical term!

If you have removed a rusty circlip then it should now be loose. Spray it with WD40 and give it a very gentle tap with a hammer and it should come out.
