Was driving the old girl like an idiot when the oil p light came on as well as an iritation buzzing noise. I bought her 12 months ago for 350. The previous owners neighbour had done the head gasket, badly! To the point that he sold me the car cheap because it had lost power and back fired like your girlfriend finding out you slept with her best mate. This was corrected by timing it correctly.
I would hope that when the head was done they replaced the valve stem oil seals. So this would lead you to believe it could be a piston ring? I forgot to mention apparently when Im giving it the beans and I change gear there is blue smoke.
I have convinced myself it is a ring and been geeking up on the 2.0l block swap, seems pretty simple. Can anyone confirm that there is a noticable difference/is it worth the effort. I only ask as I know of a complete 1.8 B/H that I can swap it for.

meany ppl dont do valve stem seals when the head is off hey cant be arsed releaseing the valve springs. thats wher ethe blue smoe is, piston rings wont cause oil pressure issues. it more likely oil pickup blocked duff pump or a knackerd bearing shell

Yeah my mechanic mate said the same. My mk2 has 141 on the clock so im trying to gage whether its worth a block change.
I would probably get the 1.8 head polished and ported, I know a guy that builds racing engines. He P&P another mk2 I had which made a noticable difference.

Puff of blue smoke during throttle applications is down to valve guide seals. It is possible to replave them with the head in situ, look at the maintenance section.
If you were driving like a clown, did the red light come on as you were taking bends on two wheels? If so, then it would be down to low oil quantity. Your oil temp would also be elevated.

Nothing in the bends, yet. I serviced her 2 weeks ago so plenty of oil, I have checked since. And new sump gasket.

I had the same with mine, check the wire connection on the top of the oil filter housing, mine was loose and it was shorting and causing the warning light / buzzer to come on. Failing that take the sump off and check the oil pickup, it may well be blocked plus it's worth checking the oil pump at the same time.

Cheers Jeremy, adding to the long list of things to look at. White 90 spec mk2s look are the greatest! sadly own have one anymore.
