into rreg that engine blew up but this had crank sensor
now allturns over but no spark
so my question is can i bypass this or wat effect will it have if sensor connected but not bolted in as no hole in engine for it

thnx for any help

The later engine has a different ecu set up to the later cars, it is going to need the crank sensor to run.

Don't think so  :undecided: early is 2e later cars are AGG I believe they are different.

Can you not swap ECUs?

kreg didnt have abs aircon or airbags
will they still work?

Have you put a 2E engine in place of an AGG?   did you only swap the actual block and head?  If so you just need a crank sensor, other wise ECU but you would need to find a 2E ecu that will run ABS etc..  I dont know if they will adopt the ABS and Air bag or it needs to be one that already had it (hard to find on an early MK3)   But then that would also mean throttle body etc.. is different as it had no positions sensor?  so it gets a bit confusing, if you changed the whole engine with manifold etc.. surly you would have been missing a few plugs on the loom?  if it was just the block and head you need to put all the 2E intake manifold etc.. back on and find a 2E ECU?????

i put in 2e whole engine { as thought was same how stupid am i } & bolted on air intake fuel rail etc from agg engine that was in car & used loom that was on rreg car
so im now thinkin boltin another head on old block best option  after all i learnt on here
guess i keep on forgettin why i love vw as nothin seems to be the same
will rebuild agg engine with new head & tell u next weekend how got on
hopefully runs

Right geezer this is entirely possible but it will require a bit of concentration and time.
I just put a 2e in my adz and used an agg loom.
You will need the 2e engine block loom and the 2e ecu and you will also need a 2e ecu connector plug with  maybe 10cm of wires poking out of it.
you will also need a couple of pin ejectors because you need to swap all the wires round on the 2e engine loom multiblock connector to corespond withe the correct wires on the agg loom.
The agg is sequential injection whereas the 2e is not so you only need to use one of the injector wires but you will need to use two of the redundant injector wires to piggyback up to the ecu and then use them for the cold start injector live and somthig else cant quite remember what cos i dont have my notes in front of me they are at work.
But i can send you copies if you would like and talk them through on the phone if need be.
Also the reason you need the 2e ecu multi plug is the 2e ecu has cut outs on it presumably so you cant plug the wrong ecu into the agg loom.
Oh there is one very important wire to remove it is a live on the agg loom that would fry your 2e ecu you cut it ond use it for the evap valve live and cold start live and the other thing your 2e has that the agg doesnt that i cant remember at the moment,
Or the other option is just fit a 2e engine loom if you can get one , there is aircon but its just for clutch no? james...

that was it it has an idle air controll valve I think the agg uses solenoids or something like that.

head im 90% sure is same AGG to 2E, differences are all in the inlet manifold. as above, it wont run on the later management without a crank sensor. alternative is to change the engine loom and management for 2E stuff, either by replacing entire engine loom or chop + splice as above.  its a lot of work though either way you go about it

As easy as that aye?

oh other issue with swapping entire loom, is your car might have the engine and lighting looms integrated. if thats so then you cant use a 2e one direct as it has engine loom separate from lighting loom. that means to fit it you would have to unwrap the old loom and swap all the lighting looms into the 2e loom

if not wat is diff as i gonna try & save all mk3 gti i can till run out of bits
& 2e engine still here so if any interest pm me
thnx for all u info & help
