Title: Semi Newbie question
Post by: Ovv on 21 August 2003, 21:26
Howdy,

Looking to down grade my current car to save some cash to get marrried :-\ Have been offered a Mk3 Golf Gti thats currently pushing out 170bhp, only engine mod is a K&N panel filter.

What sort of Bhp would I be able to achieve with a chip & some cams ??

Need to try to get around the 190 mark, as thats what Ive currently got in my Cupra.

Cheers in advance

Chris

Hiya,

Is that the same Ovv from seatcupra.net land?  :)

Assuming that is a mk3 16v, 170bhp just from an air filter swap just isn't happening! You are talking a lot of money to get to 190, things just aren't that easy once you move away from your 20vT  :(

Get yourself a late vr6!

Certainly is : ;D

The Golf has been rolling roaded at 170 bhp@ Star Performance, and its pretty quick for a NA.
VR6 aint really in my price range.
How muh are we talking for some cams & a chip ?? What sort of bhp would I get, Ive been quoted about the 185-190 mark.

Theres no way a 16v will do 170bhp with just an air filter. It probably has already had a chip or cams or both.

A chip, exhaust and filter can net you in the region of 174 BHP which isnt at all bad. I would imagine the cams are standard but need doing to release more horses.
