go for a k&n or any other decent cotton gauze filter ie green, jetex blah blah blah. in my own opinion i'd steer clear of foam jobbies. there are a few cams you could use, bear in mind that the wilder the cam the harder it will be to drive as they can make your engine idle very lumpy. but you'll get the best from a lairy one with a bit of head work!!! brand wise i went for piper but i don't think theres anything between them and kent. i bought mine on reccomendation.

As well as my mk1 and mk2 golfs i have a 2ltr 8v seat ibiza, I hace put in a K&N induction kit and have had no  problems with it at all.
I have also put in a kent fast road cam which has made my engine very lumpy indeed although I dont think the timing is qute right on it. since putting in the cam my tappets have also got quite a bit noisier which is annoying, but the cam has made a big difference performance wise, with no headwork.

Can you get a vernier pulley for this camshaft?  If so, that would help to get the timing spot on.

for what camshaft? you can get them for piper, kent etc and various other brands and thats the whole idea of them... to get the timing right! i've got one on mine and they do require a bit of trial and erro to get the best out of the cam

Trial and error !! tut tut ... you should always dial a cam in properly to get the benefit from it!

Once setup correctly u can move the cam 1/2 a degree either way to move the power up or down the rev range but the stock setting as normally perfect

yeah i had mine set up by two different people and both used the proper tuning dial that cam with the cam but they were both miles apart from each other! it was better second time round but i'm sure it could still be done to make it less lumpy
