cheat,  light it up with a blowtorch and let it burn clean if the matrix is intact.    or find one that about right size and get a bodge it or scarper to weld it in

+2 heat shields always work they're way loose my one on my mk4 went the day i bought it typical lol

its failed the emissions, vagcom says the cat has failed in the 2nd bank or something similar,
i cleared the codes and the fault has come back
