hi peep help me ive got a mk3 gti 8 valve and it struggles to get past 3000rpm but if i put my foot down on the throtle it ok ok but wont go past 5000rpm and after that it will run rough after that. has anyone got any ideas that could help me?
-
check the timing......... if that's ok then it's in safe mode and needs a vag-com scan to find what's bust
-
ok what a vag-com and i get it done at any garage?
-
it's vw fault code scanning software (many garages do this but someone local from the site may do it for beer tokens)
-
is their anyone that live local to me that could do a vag-com for me?

have you got a rev limited rotor arm the spring can go weak and instead of cutting the revs at 62000 approx it cuts in lower so the engine wont rev happened to me years ago on a golf that came into the garage i worked in
-
no dont have them in a mk3, limiter all ecu controlled
-
My 8v feels like it is over revving past 5k. Is this not right?
-
What do you mean over revving?
I.E it's revving and has no power? 5K is probably on the end of the 8vs power range tbh.
To the original poster, this developed or been like it ever since you got it?
-
mines the same revs fine til 5k then limiter cuts in also i cant get vag com to pick up my ecu picks the abs up but not the ecu any ideas
-

As already said, first step is to check the timing, second step get it scanned for fault codes, see what that throws up and take it from there.
I had this problem a while ago on mine and it turned out to be the hall sensor. Replaced the dizzy and sensor and problem solved
