Title: MK2 Polo Engine - Direct Fit Into MK2 Golf?
Post by: BiGUKG on 09 November 2010, 19:22
Just wondering, my engine has done 115k, needs a new cylinder head and clutch, and I've been offered any bits I want from a MK2 Polo that's done something like 30k or 60k (vague, but that was many weeks and many many stellas ago!!), so I'm thinking cut my loses and ask about the engine or if it's cheap enough have the whole car, take what I need then send it to the scrappy?

Doubt any suspension/brakes etc but might be worthwhile if the engine'll go in!  :nerd:

yeah basic engine will be the same as yours, swap over whats different from old lump and drop in. assuming old mk2 lump is a 1.3 of course :)
pretty much nothing else will be any use, except box if its a 5 speeder

good point, older polo would have points ignition which would be tricky to get going in a later mk2 with electronic ignition...

Apparently the Polo isn't even a Polo, it's a Fox!
I have found another Polo though with the same sized engine so I'm hoping to get the head off that tonight. Too far away to have the whole engine which is a shame.

Need to check the engine code, apparently needs to me 2G or MH for the head he has to fit!

Might have the clutch too if it'll fit!
Thanks for the replies, I'll keep my eye out for a Polo 1.3 lump!
