Title: Starting Problem Golf 1990 16V
Post by: alex2504 on 06 February 2005, 17:22
The cylinder head gasket had gone an my Golf, have replaced with new gasket and tidied up the head a bit. Its now all back together again but I cannot get the engine to start. Have tried following:

- There is plenty of spark
- All the Vacuum hoses seem to be back on the correct locations, but not a 100% sure
- When i remove an injector from the head there doesn't seem to be any fuel injecting through it, should there be?
- Positive pressure in the Inlet manifold when I remove Injector, is this normal?
- The fuel pump works no problem, when I push up the plate in the airbox while trying to start there is fuel going through the injectors.

When i try to start it there is absolutely no life in the engine

Can anyone help?????? Before I go mad!!!!!

Take out plug #1 and turn the engine over by hand (clockwise) untill piston #1 is at TDC.  Ten check the mark on the rear of the camshaft lines up with the rocker cover at the front of the engine, then take the dizzy cap off and make sure the rotor arm is pointing to HT lead #1.
