Title: MK 6 side trims
Post by: Johnnymac07 on 08 November 2010, 00:12
Hi,

I have a MK6 GTI, I noticed the MK6 R have side trims that look very well.  I was wondering if anyone has put these side trims on the GTI and how do they look given the different front grills and bumper?  I imagine it only adds but was hoping to see a pic before committing...  Any pics would be greatly appreciated...

Cheers

Please don't change the side trims on the GTi. They are so understated and elegant.

I don't think the Golf R has side trims as standard?!?

Here is a picture of the Golf with added side trims.

Skirts, dwarling. He'll then trim them with a twin-set and pearls so that it looks like an R.

Side trims do you mean the rubberised strips along the doors?

Yes they look ok it may depend on what colour the car is? Obviously that shadow blue Golf looks ok a white one may stick out like a sore thumb.

They fitted them as standard on the Mk5.

Yes but that doesn't appear to be an 'R' unless its been rebadged I can't see the 'R' badge on the grill and it says 2.0 TDI on the back as the reading says. It does have 'R' tail pipes.

Pretty sure that was the "mule" they used to test the new R running gear.

Yep that’s exactly what it is. I wouldn't trust that picture its a cobbled together disguised test car. Plenty of other pics of real R's about on the net, check them out first before committing. Although part of me says….you have GTI, be proud of the way it looks, why make it look like an R, its not one after all....

Thanks for all the comments, sorry for the confusion  - I do mean skirts...  I think that pic of Mac's looks great - nice work!  Are those the skirts that volkswagen sell on their website - (https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/order-a-brochure?accessories=1) or did you get them from elsewhere?  Aside from those wheels and the wing mirrors have you done something else to the car cause that's exactly what I'm after...

Cheers for the help :-)

I am pretty sure though the side skirts are standard on the R, I haven't seen any without.  That said, my intention is not at all to turn it into an R, I much prefer the GTI grill and twin exhausts...    I personally think the skirts are pretty understated but definitely add an extra sportiness which I like...

It's not my car but the side skirts are the R-Line ones fitted to the Golf R and Bluemotion models. They are different to the Votex ones in the accessory catalogue

Love it. That GTD looks pretty good with those skirts. I like the black wing mirrors to. You can get away with black wing mirrors on a white one imo.

Cheers mac - what's the difference between the two skirts?  Obviously I'd be after ones that make the car look that bit lower.  If the R ones are lower, where do you get them?

Cheers again for the help :-)

My vote is with the above guys, leave as be.
Though I wouldn't mind backlit kick-plates on my GTi. There seems plenty of room for them.....anyone else?

I was just about to say similar. Theres loads of bluemotion golfs about that come with these skirts standard.
