1 uprated headlight loom.? Have to wait a few hours now for it to get dark and I can try it out.
If anyone wants me to write a 'how to' then I'll list what you need and how to do it.
-
whats the advantage in using 2 relays?
-
1 for dipped, 1 for main beam
-
ooo ooo i want one
-
aah  give us a guide then, this seems a better loom than the matey-matey one
so do you need 3 relays to uprate the spot lights as well
-
right boys. your shopping list: (bought from halfords)
3 reels of wire. 17AMP, but rated at 210w @ 12v in black, red and blue - ?2.49 x 3
2 30AMP relays. Probably get them cheaper from RS or maplins, but from halfords - ?4.99 x 2
assorted heatshink (to do a proper job) - ?1.09
and whatever method you want to attach the live and earth wires.
-
if you guys are interested in such a loom made with love and care like mine. everything insulated, etc. then I'm thinking of making up a batch. I shall be researching parts costs from maplins tomorrow so hopefully I can make them up and sell on as cheap as possible.
Also the completed kit will be a plug and play affair. no cutting or soldering required.
interested?
-
sounds good, but ive already got the bits for the simple loom, and i can do it myself. you should get quite a few orders i would have thought. so do you need a 3rd relay to do the inner spots
-
nope, they piggyback the mainbeam's connection. I just cut those off my loom lol. I used the sleaves on the uprated loom.
-
Dizzy, its worth it, I did this before I went Xenon and it did make a big difference, I could actually see where I was going.
Talking about headlights, HID's ? The light output is amazing, in the process of making a custom projector in a 7" round headlight. Hopefully will get more pics up.

ahh i wouldn't mind a how to. purely because i've been too lazy to do this myself! the shopping list is a good start but where do you attatch what to what?
i assume the positive and negative go straight to the battery but where are you attatching this loom to the headlight switch?
-
looking good solo.
Joe have you seen the matey-matey diagram?
-
i read about it but never bothered to look at the diagram................soooooo lazy!! is it pretty straight forward then?
-
I shall be making up looms to sell in the next week. once I've found out how much the plugs are for the lights I can make the whole loom plug and play. even a muppet can't connect this wrong.
Once i've found out the cost of the these plugs I'm hoping the cost will be about ?15-20 for the looms to you.
The looms will be made up so installing them is as simple as pluging the loom onto your lights, the old loom to the relays and the relays to the battery + and -. this will all be done without cutting your existing loom or having to solder anything.
-
btw, my headlights are awesome now
-
good to hear it all worked out! i may get off my ass to do mine or if i remain as lazy as i currently am i'll buy one off you!
-
well I've looked into the cost of the bits to make them and we're looking at a 'deluxe' kit featuring proper connectors for the bulbs for ?20 and a standard setup which will feature 3 connectors to plug onto the bulb for ?15. They both work exactly the same, just the deluxe one can't be connected wrong to the bulbs. Obviously the standard one will come with clear instructions on how to wire it.
Once I've got a few orders I'll buy the 50m reels of wire to make them up.
-
hmmmmm i may be interested in this, standard lights am I right?
as i think mine are pretty crap
-
yeah Rob that's right. it'll improve your standard lights and also let you run more powerful 100w bulbs which are brighter still without melting the wiring loom.
-
i used 30 amp fused relays(7.99 from halfords).looks a bit tidier than an inline fuse.also if you have 1 in line fuse to both realys and the fuse blows you have lost all lighting.if each relay has a seperate fuse if one blows you still have the other lighting circuit.

the link above is a good source of information.much more comprehensive than the matey matey one.

If you are after 30AMP Siemens Relays (Single pole) for freebies, I have about 2000 at work going begging that I am sure I can get my hands on.. They do not require heatsinks either.
Let me know and I will grab a load :)

I made my own loom just before Xmas and with the 60/100W bulbs the difference is amazing!!!!! highly reccomend one.
-
Now selling the looms guys. I put a post up on the for sale section. Email your orders through is best so I won't forget about them
The difference is amazing. I was down some lanes tonight after the GPS decided to recalibrate my way home due to road works. didn't warn me we were going off road
Both dip and full beam are truely awesome and I'm still using the standard bulbs!
