Hudersfield and leeds VW dealers are advertizing the same car at a price difference of £600. I've been to see them both. Test drove it at Hudersfield today. It is a GTD on a 59 plate with 14k on the clock and 4 brand new tyres. Why the new tyres at that mileage you might ask?
Anyway i drove it out of the dealers and made a fuel stop just down the road. As the salesman went to pay i noticed a tiny split in the dash and the centre arm rest was really loose. We went on the motorway, as we reached about 60mph a shudder was felt throughout the car.
To keep this short i wasn't gonna buy the car but was curious as to how it drove. However some poor unsuspecting gullable soul will buy this car. So why do these idiots think its good practice to sell dodgy cars of which this obviously was? And i can understand trying to sell it from 2 dealers but not at different prices on the same website( vw used car locator ).
On the same site a GTD is advertized at warrington VW for a thousand pound less than it was at their dealers. It wasn't a mistake either as i found out on returning home and looking on the sight again after spending an hour trying to negotiate a thousand pound off at the dealers. d
I didn't buy that either. It had an irish plate and a crooked sticker on the B pillar. Needless to say they phoned me the next morning and agrreed the extra money off. Although the car drove nice i couldn't risk it. Another dodgy dealer i suspect.
BUYER BEWARE.

Sickening.
Thanks for posting the warning.
Maybe you should inform VWCS of your findings. They need to clean-up some of their dealers IMO.

Regional Variability. It's not new or big news.
Put the spec up and I bet it will have a couple more thousand added to the price for those in london and the SE.

Bustards!

I.E. First Service costs: Stafford = £208, Kent = £258.

Yeah, but you guys down south get bigger salaries.

Only in the South East which is the centre of the Universe. In the South West the salaries are amongst the lowest in the UK yet housing & living costs are London-esque.

That's because the rich south easterners are buying properties in the south west as weekend retreats, thus putting the prices beyond the reach of locals. This probably also has a knock on effect as far as car prices are concerned, no discount on your new GTI

Interestingly, on a slightly different (but similar vein) I had Darren stick me a bluetooth in yesterday (top jod too fella). However, when he was coding it he brought up an error on the VAG COM saying there was a problem with the inclinometer side of my alarm. Now I mentioned to the stealer in August that my Alarm LED was a bit temperamental so could they check it out. They said after the service there was nothing wrong with it and the whole system was fine.
In other words I've had a car for x months that could have been tilted and winched onto a truck without any alarm going off just because the useless **** of a dealer couldn't even read a code that one of the lads on this forum can!!!
Absolutely bloody useless. Are there any stealers out there who've vaguely got an idea how to fix these cars? - such incompetence was the main reason I left VW several years ago.

It used to be and still is the North/South divide.
Now it is the East/West divide in the South.
Whatever next?

They are worse than useless.
I need to get mine checked by SteveP at some stage as they might have disconnected my battery whilst doing all that bumper work.

Yes so did I. Kicked up a big stink and let them know about it.... get treated like a customer now rather than someone who NEEDS work doing by them.
Given them alot of work over the last few years... so they now value my custom a little more than most

regional variabilty? the two dealers are a couple of miles apart and it was the same car. not just the model n spec but the same piece of metal. on wed i saw it at huddersfield and on sat i saw it in leeds at £600 more.
thats not regional variabily.

Now, now boys and girls, lets not bicker about the divides.
I'm a londoner who moved 'up to the sticks' 6 years ago, and the higher salaries down south are needed for the extortionate cost of living down there.
Similarly, I couldn't have purchased a house down there for quite a few years, so I would say there is a better standard of living up here.
It cancels each out, so it is down to personal choice of where you live (with a few dependancies)
Besides, there is plenty of money up norf !

Not quite true imo. The problem is property developers keep house prices high as they buy them as buy to lets. Theres loads of southener developers own loads of property up here since the late 90s which made house prices sky rocket ten fold and not come back down. Were as the wages have stayed the same level and not even rises with inflation so actually dropped or nearly halfed. If you move down south and make your money then move back up you can afford a house i know. But if like my brother you work and live in the north you cannot buy a house as simply the saleries are not high enough to get a morgage to buy a terrace house bacause some developer landlord type just think as 100K as pocket change were as most jobs here pay ~£20K (Most are less, this level is for people with qualifications and experience) so buying a ~100K(thats min price now) is not realistic. Even places like sheffield pay far far higher wages than this far north but the house prices are similar. As an example students on there year out of there degree in sheffield are getting paid 21K the ones that got placments up here are getting just 15K

Fair point about developers. But to be fair, to a lot of people the 'South' means largely London whereas there are many large cities and developed towns the the 'North' (which to many means anywhere past Herts/Beds).
There are, therefore, more choices (locations) to remain in the 'North' providing opportunities to earn the reddies.
As a southerner, believe me, if you are not in a highly paid job and you don't have support from say family, it is very difficult down there. I'm glad I relocated when I got hitched to a northerner!!

It wasn't a white one was it?
i drove two from the Huddersfield dealership - salesmen were "wideboys" and the 3 door one had a warning light on it and felt thrashed to hell and back
