Title: Have Halfords sold me the wrong battery?
Post by: HuwMk2 on 06 November 2010, 19:07
My old battery recently died, I was in a hurry so bought a new one from Halfords. The old battery was a 075 but the Halfords guide book and sales merchant said I needed a smaller 063 battery. However, since fitting the new battery the car does not start on the first turn of the key as it used to, I presume this is down to the new battery being too small. My car is a 1992 8v. Is the new battery incorrect??? Thanks.

063 should be fine! 075 can be used as an upgrade but my 2.8 vr6 only uses an 075.

As long as it has the correct CCA it should be fine :)

Everyone is saying this and that about battery but have you considered that your alternator might be fecked? Hence no matter how big or expensive your battery it will go flat anyways?
Mines a 063 and its fine. Unless you have a diesel or funky glow plugs you don't need that much cranking power.
Get a volt meter and check what your drain is on your terminals at the alternator and battery!

Or your starter motor is on its way out?

battery size has littel to do with starting the car.  i have a rinky dinky 14 AH to go on mine.   dinky size, light, radio would flaten it in about 10 mins but gives 600 CCA
