Hi all,I have a mk2 golf sat doing nothing at the min but plan to use it after i sell my mk3 wagon.I also have a an early mk3 golf gti non abs that im breaking at the moment.
My question is how easy is it to swap it all over to the golf mk2 to make it a 5 stud???.Both cars have all brakes etc still so i have no missing parts.My mk2 is a h plate driver 1.6 with power steering.
I figureed i'd ask before i sell it all and the driver is still standard and i have coilies and vr6 alloys 280mm brakes that are just dying to be used.
Your help and advice on this would be fantastic and if it is a stupid idea please advise me on this lol

Is all very easy, providing you have space, tools etc. You will need to remove the mk3 wishbones, shafts, hubs, steering rack etc. Just swap them for yours. The rear is the same kind of story, just swap the beams over. You will also gain 15mm each side iirc.

As above, if you google "mk2 golf widetrack conversion" you should be able to find a couple guides to it. I always thought that the mk 3 hubs bolted straight onto the mk 2 without having to change the wishbones and rear beam, if you didn't want the extra width, though this is am uneducated assumption, so don't hold me to that

True, but you would need to swap the ends of the driveshafts over as they are different at the hub end.

cant change just the 5stud bearing carrier assemblies, it throws out your geometry. the ball joint is further forward on the 5 stud setup so it messes up the castor. you can press a 5 stud hub into a 4 stud bearing carrier, but this means you have to re-drill 4 stud discs or buy early passat vr6 discs which are VW only:
357 615 301 A - 280 brake disc, 5x100 - 38.83+VAT
lot of work when you have everything you need just sat there ready to fit! can swap just the rear stub axles over to get rear discs, but you wont get the roll bar then. dont count on the 5 stud beam being wider though usually its only early 4 stud ones that are. either way, make sure you fit some kind of bias valve, without it the rears will lock up too early which is bad. if you are lucky the mk3 has a bias valve, it probably will being an early one. if not you'll have to strip the bits off a mk2 gti and change your brake hoses to get it plumbed in.
you can also fit all the mk3 alt/pas/belt setup from it, way better than mk2 stuff.
