Title: new project idea??
Post by: lemski on 04 November 2010, 19:40
Hi, I was thinking of a mk1 with a 1.8t 20v dropped in it. Running near 300bhp. I don't know tho. What's peoples thoughts?

Sounds good to me but 300 brake through the front wheels is maybe a bit ott?

You'd need a limitted slip diff fo show.

Is is a good idea to take a mega cool oldskool car, completely re-do it and then drop a 300bhp engine in it? hmmmmmm

Yeh just perfect for the roads of lincolnshire. If it want for the 1.8t it would b a 16v race engine. Eitherway super power in a mk1 for the win. Haha. I just want something to build that's a step up from my valver.

a step up!... a big step up!... aww they'll be no k-jet MK1s left soon, so many people dropping 20vt's in then these days... i can understand whty though...  I don't know what i'll do when my engine say fook you!  I hope it never does.  :lipsrsealed:

Well I was going to put the k-jet in from neg but twin k-jet it (2 throttle bodies and airbox etc) but I don't know there my 2 ideas. But powerwise idk. I need some help with this really. Either one doesn't bother me. I'd like na just to show people with turbos that I don't need one to beat them. Hmmm... Its a big decision for me to have my mk1 a super machine

When/If i manage to get my hands on a Mk1, Its either getting ABF'd with ITB's - 190-200bhp (estimate)
Or
20vT, most likely running around 260ish bhp (stage 1 map on a BAM  )
But will be more of a show car as opposed to a track schllaaaag!

I can't show you up. You have a black mk1. I have my eye on a red 1. I have a thing with red cars. And if I decide to go with the 20vt I will be havin silly bits done to give it super power. My mk2 keeps with the rs turbs and that but I'm use to it so mk1 is lighter + my engine or 20v will b perfect. But not better than your sound illusion

300bhp in a mk1 is pointless.

A well sorted 2.0 16v is a better choice.

I'd rather have my 1.8 lump

I like the idea of the 1.8 turbo engine and this would be my first chose but i do agree that 300bhp is going to be crazy power in such a small car even with lsd. Just think you are going to be using this car as an everyday runner which is good but is it practical? I suppose if you have a adjustable boost controller it would be tooo bad, only need to turn it up when you really need the power

Kai your a genious but I will speak to scott tomorow and see what his knowledge comes up with

Yes I am,  just think that if you do something like adding an adjustable boost controller then at least it will make it a practical everyday running car with a little bit more for those fun days.
How easy is it to drop a 20v 1.8t in a mk1? Heard that these engines can be quiet laggy running that sort of bhp, maybe be worth looking to have a stand alone ecu to prevent this, also would work better with adjustable controller too.

Mmm think I'm getting excited

I went to c scott today and explain k-jet or 1.8 20 valve and he said 20valve and I was looking at a polo c which he's got. He rekons it'll be easy to drop in. I have faith in his wisdom.

mmm a polo c, im not sure about that only because i prefer my mk1's to them. I am sure scott is rite and if anyone has the knowledge to do it it will be him. You need to decide now what you would prefer to roll around in, polo or mk1, i know what i would choose mk1 all day long. How much has he got the polo for, is it that white one?

Mkw and polo are 895 so idk would rather have the mk1 and as scott can get me a cheap 20v lump am swayin towards that idea. He's a bad influence. He even said when I can't get ne more power out of the 20v he can get a nos kit for cheap :/ he's abit power mad. Lol

Told you he is a little mad like that, he doesnt really like things to stay standard, its turbo this and supercharge that   You are in good hands with this conversion  So when is all this going to start happening?

Actually a super short-stroke, fully balanced, ported and flowed, big valve 1.6 16V on ITBs, with a rev limit of around 9000RPM in a super-lightweight Golf1 shell would be far cooler.

Get it in at under 700kg, with 160bhp from the 1.6 and you'd have something very special to drive, with the right mods.

Hmmm. But a 20v turbo is an upgrade from my 16v lump that was going to go in it

No, adding lightness and simplicity is a huge upgrade from adding complexity and weight.

Wise-up, suckers.

No I think the mk1 is going to be done my way. All I was talking about on here is which engine to put in out of the to.
