ah right so yeah driver side chassis leg mount needs cutting off flippin upside down and rewelding.
need to change all the linkages in bay all the way back to the stick and the housing it bolts to. need mk1/cabrio/scirocco 1.5-1.8 gear linkages and engine mounts, 5 speeder obv for box mount and linkage setup. may need steering rack from 1.5-1.8 too, smally block sometimes dontn have the gear linkage bracket you need.

exhaust is tricky bit, need to either buy off shelf mk1 16v conversion 4 branch or make your own downpipe.  also what management do you plan to run it on~?

mk2 axles dont fit but stub axle assy will swap over if you want rear discs. no real need to tho on a mk1. remember you need bias adjustment to make it work, either make a bracket so mk2 bias fits near beam, find mk1 gti bias or fit late cab/rocco inline pressure reducers. these are found in the engine bay on the master cylinder. don't confuse them for the inline valve thingies further down near bottom of engine bay

heres pic of big block MK1 mount and rack:

unfortunatly not much off mk2 is any good except box and engine management :(

you also need mk1 gti main pump & accumulator for under the car  plus fuel lines. crazyquiff will sell you mk1 16v conversion lines but not cheap! theres a chance some of the mk2 fuel lines could be made to work though. cant use mk2 pump as its far too big.

also either need to swap tank for mk1 tintop gti, or fit later cab/rocco in-tank lift pump and under car plastic reservoir which means can keep old tank

yeah I think thats everything? oh one thing, rotate the dizzy 180 degrees and buy an abf dizzy cap. swap the leads round to suit (i.e. fit lead #1 where the rotor arm points when engine at tdc) then time engine up spot on with timing light. reason for this is not much room between kr dizzy cap and brake cylinder/reservoir. reason you rotate dizzy is with abf cap it'll face backwards with kr dizzy in stock position.  some suggest to cut up the cap to makeit sit facing upwards, but i found rotating dizzy 180degrees works just fine :)

only thing is you need an 8v king lead as the 16v one wont reach, but no big deal.  i actually ended up making my own king lead from an old 16v lead, popped the sparkplug end off and swapped it for the l shaped end from another lead.

heres pics to show what I mean:

oh and this is how I modified the MK1 TCI bracket to take the KR ecu as well:
