After many miles of happy motoring the dreaded boosteak is back ! Have checked all the pipes and replaced the top & bottom clips but still got a leak somewhere possibly the turbo to intercooler pancake pipe. May be time to do a full SFS pipe replacement adding the clamps as well.
-
dont think they made the clamps in the end :undecided: also alot of mixed reviews on SFS products
-
Good luck with finding the leak mate, it's a proper arse of a problem on these dervs.
What symptoms are you getting mate?
-
Same symtoms as usual when you accelerate the Whooshing sounds like to much air escaping plus it creating a trail behind the car like an aeroplane lol I know its only a small leak as it's not lost any power. Last time it was just a split hose so will keep looking !

Oh right ..not sure whether just carry on replacing with oem parts then..
-
Having checked mine i have found the top pipe ( 1J0 145 838Q)) i not long ago replaced seem to be pushing in & out slightly when you put the accelerator down, i have replaced the clip but to no avail ! looks like slight lug wear so the only option i can see is to replace the pipe again?
Teach me for saying the other day i have had no problems for a long time lol
-
Yeah I remember that Kerrse, you must've tempted fate mate.
Hope it gets sorted fella
-
By trail do you mean.. lots of black exhaust smoke?
I also have a very noticeable whoosing noise, but I put that down to replacement air filter.
Are you getting sh!t MPG?

No it's only a small leak so no big black clouds just more smoke than their should be even in a diesel lol You should have a slight whoosing noise but mine sounds more like air escaping i am fairly sure i know where the leak is but my mechanic is going to give it the once over after my MOT tomorrow morning.
-
Looks like it's the small hose that comes off the pancake pipe, will order a new one tomorrow going to stick with oem after hearing comments about SFS.
-
Cool glad you got to the bottom of your problem mate.

Not sure when it comes to hoses may be a hard one to win !
It's weird it's gone in the same place may have to see if it's rubbing on something as i can't think why it would go again so soon !

Fairly certain its 12 months on parts if you fit it yourself and 2 years if the dealer fits it for you
Best of luck getting a free replacement :afro:

Pipe replaced and all fine now but no refund as they wanted to hook my ecu up to a computer and do tests didn't fancy risking them proving it was remapped as this invalidates any warranty on standard parts. Oh well was only £50 for a new pipe.

Would they charge you for doing these tests? :undecided:
Still a bit rubbish they didn't give it to you FOC
-
high how much are the clips that hold the pipes on, as mine looks like it is leaking goiing into the intercooler and out of the intercooler.

That same part was fooked on mine due to worn lugs, I was charged £20 for the connector and it was a nice tight fit once it was replaced. Mine was the connector behind the drivers headlight side of the intercooler.
-
cheers mate did you get the parts from vw, and is yours the 130 model?

Indeed a bit rubbish but i do understand that the parts are warrantied for a standard car so i wouldn't have a leg to stand on if i tried to fight it. It may well be the cause of the pipe blowing certainly causes the clips to stretch and snap lol
Although in the interest of good customer service they might of at least knocked some money off the new one !
If it was easy to go to a different dealer for parts i would as i have spent a fortune in there on parts over the years.
I did ask would it cost me to do the tests the rather intelligent free assistant said yes lol

I'm getting the same symptons on my new golf - sound's like a leak then.
No black smoke, and a loss of power but it's not a massive loss.
As im new to this world, what is it im looking for and what is the best way to go about looking for it?!

Check the Ekta drawing on here shows you all the pipes to check.. check for loose clips..oil on the joints .. also check all the pipes for holes.
-
nice one cheers mate - will look into it this weekend.
-
I get a massive whistling sound from the turbo, would this be normal? lol
Not sure if ive got a leak as its a bit smokey on full boost but nothing major.
-
being the lazy bastard i am - i decided to not check for a boost leak..as i dont do a large amount of miles and it was still performing ok..
Drove to manchester from blackpool today, within 5 motorway miles i had no turbo boost whatsoever, i'm assuming that's just a fail safe as if i turned the car off and on again the turbo came back on. The turbo went again on the home..
Does this sound like a nailed on boost leak then, as soon as i hit just under 2000 revs it just sounds like air escaping from the bonnet!
off work all week this week so will have more time to look into it.
-
you hit limp mode, could be caused by sticky vains a turbo clean will solve this
-
pipes were pressured tested today and are fine, looks like Turbo needs a good clean...
-
I can't seem to find out what retaining clip goes on the end of pipe 9 the opposite end to where it joins the pancake pipe.. i have tried a no.5 clip but it is to small anyone got any ideas as VW couldn't even help lol

Car is back in the garage,
It's massively overboosting apparently, so he's ordered a part (forgive my ignorance) which controls the boost for the turbo.
If this doesn't sort the problem out it's a new turbo. Luckily, the garage i bought it from gave me a 6 month warrenty so it's not costing me a penny. Once this is sorted this should sort my problem out!
-
If it is the overboosting a cleaning of the VNT mechanism will probably cure it if it is not the N75 valve or actuator or vac piping.
have a read of this (http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/394072.aspx)

He checked to see if it was just sticking and he said that it's moving freely, had to take his word on this.
Reading through it must be the N75 valve that's being replaced. i'm hoping this will solve it.. i've only had the car 3 months.
-
Sorry guys, just a silly question.
When driving with the window down, when I accelerate, I can here kind of a whistle. Is this a boost leak??
I have no idea lol :lipsrsealed:
-
The Whistle is just the wirring of the turbo and nothing to worry about unless you are also getting loss of power.

Do you have vagcom or know someone that does?
You could do with running some logs to see what is happening :afro:
