Just when I thoght all my probs were solved :)
Lat 2 days I have noticed that when i put my blowers on hot all the windows in the car steam up, there must be water getting in from the coolent as it has not rained in over 8 days!
Is this the famous "Matrix explode"? as my water levels seem fine? or is this just the start to the full blown explosion? :)
Any ideas on where i should start to look for this?
Cheers

Drove to work this morning with blower on screen setting and heat control on cold, no steam what so ever, as i got to work i turn the heat up to full and everything steamed up!
Think my matrix has gone :(
Any checks to confirm this or could it be something else?
-
probably has gone if your blower blows out steam instead of hot air lol!
-
Is it just a case of replacing the matrix, gsf - ?30?, is there a repair for it? or just replacement.
Also is there something I can do tempory to stop it or disconnect it?
-
nah its just a straight swap job. but its a bit of a pain in the arse to get at. the Golf mag done a very good detailed article on changing it a year or so ago

Cheers, guyz, found the 'how to' on club gti!
I am half way through, and boy it's alot of work, have to take half the car apart to change it :) at least I can give everything a good clean and sort the underdash wires out :)
And just for the record who ever invented those Bl**dy spring clips for the hoses should be shot!! Everyone send a fiver to the person who invented the jublie clips :)
Those clips have cost me hours off my life trying to get them off, and then dodging tem when they fly off : lol
I'll report back when it's done

heard you can use the mk3 matrix thats alot stronger

I've got this problem too, except a bit different, Mine point blank refuses to blow hot air, at all, I've got the new matrix etc, but it ain't going in just yet, waiting for the conversion as the cars getting gutted anyway!! So hopefully shouldn't be too difficult with car in pieces!
-
its because the matrix has a tap that is stuck to off. the matrix only gets hot water when the tap is allowed to pump water through.
have exactly the same problem with my 827 at the moment.

Little tip, when you clean the airays out ake sure you rinse off what ever you use, my car has stunkof washing up liquid for the first couple of trips :) lol Also you do get that new car smell, with the new matrix! :)

tinman: The MK2 doesn't have a tap to close off the flow of coolant. The MK1 does though, and I imagine other VAG models of a similar age will too :)
