Title: Help needed (or probably will be at some point), and parts wanted....
Post by: RSTRich on 03 February 2005, 14:17
As stated in my newbie post the cheap ?150 runaround I purchased is to become my project, the plan is to strip the car down to chassis, and respray the whole thing, except putting it back with different (better) parts, eg engine suspension, brakes, exhaust.  At present it's a completely standard 1.3 MK2.

Now here's where I need your help, with it being a carb at the minute, I need to know if it's worth replacing the fuelling system and going for a 1.8 16v injection, or a 1.8 8v carb, I've not got a clue how much effort is need to change the car to an injection, but please remember the car is getting completely gutted, so fitting new parts won't be difficult, just don'ty know what new parts I need.

Next, I have none of these parts as of yet, I'm looking to start buying end of this month, and buying most at the end of March / April, in short I want uprated everything (obviously with a bigger engine going in), so who's selling what?  The only panel I need is o/s door (it's a 3 door by the way), but I'd like to change the clocks for something with at least a rev counter!,  A nicer interior would be better, and of course engine, gearbox, loom, brakes, suspension, exhaust, air filter (why not!), fuel tank if I'm swayed towards the injection engine, Central locking / alarm if anyone's got any of this stuff, rims, front and rear GTi bumpers, and a nice set of rims, if you can help me with any of this please, please PM me, I need to get a list done, as I'm only going to have 4 weeks to do this from start to finish!

oh and MG Flip blue, or VW White?

Hope you have plenty of cash to do this project?

So basically you have the shell to start with, you dont want any off the car you have bar the shell.

This is going to be a project for a 4 weeker but good luck!

Go for the 16V engine and i would go for the blue flip colour over the white.

Good luck Bud

noticed that, will have the cash at the end of this month hopefully, (I'm owed an awful in a tax rebate!), if it's not gone I'll take it!  But until that happens suggestions and offers are more than welcome, I know it's a big project there's four of us working on it, me and stu are doing the stripping and respraying, rob and andy will be doing interior / ICE and tuning (I'm not after ICE, I've got it on order :D) four weeks start to finish, I wish I could say I was looking forward to the beginning of May,  ahhh GTi Lights too!!!!  Need them

you could put twin carbs on whatever engine you want to put in, that would make the fuelling a lot easier

apart from just buying a GTI or 16v

id be inclined to go down the 1.8 8v Carb setup from a driver. then add the GTi cam & manifold and you'll be getting 8v GTI power without the hassle of fitting new fuel pumps etc

I think you should keep and restore the 'Terrible One' Sticker though?

Body work looks pretty sound though

Thats what i like about golfs though they dont seem to rust 'well not yet'

Earlier I spotted a MK3 16v 2.0 engine (more powerful that the MK2 16v.. only the mk3s extra weight holds it back)? on eBay going pretty cheap..

this one :)

slapping that in a mk2 you'd end up with a car faster than a normal mk2 16v...

comes with gearbox.. and the clocks.. so you'd get a rev counter too!

LMFAO, it's what adds character to the car, if you ask me

the thing with doing the 1.8 carb, manifold head etc, is for the cost I end up spending it's gonna come very close to just doing the injection system, surely.... (please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm still new to the VW thing)

only because its 2.0l, put a 2.0l 9a on a mk2 16v will give a bit more
