Newbie here to these forums, and also to the world of VW's, as the name would suggest I'm former lover of the blue oval, however due to a nice ban on my license now insurance isn't easy on an rs, so I stumbled across a cheap little run around, for ?150 I picked up a 1.3 Golf MK2 with tax and test, after looking at it, it's not in bad nick at all, the chassis and underneath are solid, with only minor bits of rust, engine only needed firing mechanism (rotor arm through to plugs) and she's a perfect runner, so now it's become a project... I'll need your help for this so I'll put a post up elsewhere, any hoo's hello all glad to be on board ;)

Hey lads weve got another one , ?
Glad youve seen the light and converted , i have had more fun in VWs than the RST and Saph cosworth that i had
Youll see the light ?
Anyway welcome to the forum

Whats an RST ?   Blue oval ! Dont know what you are talking about !
Welcome to the forum and a round badge is purer than an oval one !

lol, cheers for the welcome, I wouldn't get another RST, the two I've had cost massive amounts to repair after sticking a bit of extra power through them, number 1 (FRST) cost me a brand new turbo, and fabrication of pipes, various other things aswell, came in at a nice ?600. Number two (Orion with MK1 ERST), cost me ?750 for a full engine rebuild, after turning the boost up by about 4 PSi decided to take out my crank and pistons. Never again.
So now I'm here, I dare to put my faith in aything yet, but this is the first VW I've ever had (or driven for that matter) and even after 115k, and it's previous owner gave it no love, it starts everytime, and does what it's supposed to, so far I've no quibble with the Germans...
-
Sounds like you've had a few problems with the old blue ovals, I must admit, and dont tell anyone else on the forum , the old escort RST were a figure of my youth and I always wanted one, but mums the word eh !

Whats wrong with Peugeots then Rich???
And before you answer please note that as well as my Golf i have a fantastic 405 Mi 16!!!
Oh and qwelcome to this site mate!
-
my only real quibble with peugeots (and citroens) is the TU engines, the engines themselves are fine, but to get through 4 gearboxes in two years was ridiculous.... I know a mechanic at peugeot, he says it's common fault, though the MI16 are supposed to be pretty solid mind.
