Title: Mk2 8V strange idle problem
Post by: jammy_c on 03 February 2005, 11:51
Hi all,
I've got an "88" mk2 8v Gti campaign, and recently i've been having problems with the idle speed, it will sit at 1000rpm, then slowly climb to 2500rpm or more, hold it there for about 10 seconds, then drop again.
I thought at first it was a cold-start system, but it does it all the time now, even when the engine has been running for nearly an hour, and is hot.
I assumed it must b a problem with the idle control valve, so i removed it, gave it a good squirt with carb-cleaner, and put it back on, but still no use.

Any ideas guys?

try resetting the ECU. u disconnect the blue water temp sender then rev the engine 3 times to over 3k - this resets it

this doesnt reset the ecu at all, it just puts it into setup mode so you can adjust the idle/co. see my digifant tuning guide in the mk2 how2 section :)
