Title: My new winter alloys - Satin Black Monza's
Post by: MAW73 on 28 October 2010, 15:02
Heres a few pictures of my new winter alloys. The wheels are genuine BBS Mk5 18" Monza's which have been re-finished in satin black ( editon 30 style )

My Monza Shadows are now safely stored away with three coats of wax on and will be back on in the summer with a nice set of new summer boots on

I'll try and take some better pictures over the weekend as its a bit grey and miserble out here today...... Overall I'm pretty pleased with them tbo. They look even better in the flesh but of course they won't be all to everyones taste.

^ Thanks very much guys for the nice comments..... Admittedly they take a bit of getting used to as you can't beat a nice gleaming set of Monza Shadows on the GTI. However, in the flesh the black wheels standout quite nicely on a white car and look fairly aggressive.

Thanks for the comment. Yeh black wheels on a black GTI would just look a bit to drug dealer-ish.......... As I'm a southern softy and we hopefully won't see the weather you guys sometimes get up north, I've just decided to keep my stock tyres on for winter. Come the summer they will need replacing anyway and therefore I shall treat my car to a nice new set of continintal sport contact 3's.

Lovin the black wheels. They suit the car.
Although I think any black wheels go with white and red cars but like you say black on black is too drug-dealer-ish

Wow! I go away for a few days and come back to these visions of mean-ness.
They look really good against the white paint Martin.
The satin finish is much better than the sticky matt finish of the original schwarz Detroits.

Hi Martin:
Glad your black beauties are providing you and others with so much visual pleasure. Congratations for at least choosing Monzas.
Have you resolved your problem of damage by Kwik Fit to your Monza Shadows?

Thanks Asker........... I've got the sodding flu at the momemt so feeling like absolute crap. So not had a chance to go and pay Kwik-Twits a visit. They will only deny all knowledge of damaging the alloy anyway. I shall never use them again thats for sure.

Hi Martin.
Sorry you are unwell. Had the sodding 'flu myself. Just about recovered.
Wheels look very 'wide boyish'.
If you need help with the brastards I'll come with you. I can be VERY persuasive.
Get well soon.
It's time you, Steve and I met!
Collecting my car from the bodyshop today. Feel a bit concerned. Total time in bodyshop for rear bumper painting: 30 days!
Take care.

Manager is checking the car as we speak. I suspect it is not ready yet!

Wheels look Fab MAW

Did you have the wheels refurbished yourself? or did you buy them from a reman company already done?

How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking and were from?
Title: Re: My new winter alloys - Satin Black Monza's
Post by: MAW73 on 29 October 2010, 17:12
Thanks Movi. The wheels were a bit of a find. I brought them privately of a guy on ebay. The wheels are genuine bbs MK5 alloys which he recently had refurbed but never fitted to his car. As he needed the cash to pay for a botched remap he decided to sell them on. Without tyres I paid £350. The guy had paid £40 per wheel for the refurb.

BTW Martin.

Next time you want tyres changed go to Northway Tyres, Coronation Road in Park Royal, London NW10
Tel 0208 453 0151
www.northwaytyres.co.uk
Speak to Doug.

Even though they are part of the Kwikfit set-up, they have all the correct equipment not to scratch or damage alloys. They also store your summer wheels/tyres if you purchase winter ones from them.
They have a promotion on now for Continental Winter tyres.

The other tyre company is Hounslow Tyres:
Tel 0208 570 9937

Thought this would be helpful information.

I can see the attraction of black wheels for you youngsters.
Call me old fashioned, but as I am the resident Blingmeister, shiny ones get my juices flowing!
White wheels, vile IMO.
What about gold Monza Shadows? Hmmm....

Don't give me ideas, please.
A total crystal bling fest will be perfect but too delicate. Maybe a few bits on strategic parts of the wheel will do the trick. Best on dull black wheels IMO.

As PenguinGTI pointed out, I've found them the easist wheels in the world to keep clean. I coated them with 3-4 coats of wheel wax before I fitted them though.
