Basically how would you know your injector or injectors are fooked?
What are the symptoms?
I assume there are a few injectors obviously 1 for each valve I presume, so if one fooks up and the rest are fine what would be the symptoms for that also?
Obviously if they are all totally knackered the car wouldn't start I presume.
Also does it always show up on Vagcom?
-
You have 4 injectors - one per cylinder
I presume normal signs would be mis-firing, rough running, down on power
You can log the requested quantities via VAGCOM
-
Would it come up on vagcom if one or more are fooked?

Might only show it being an electrical problem but by doing live logging you should be able to view the requested values against the actual values of fuel being injected

What makes you think that they are boogared anyway?

OP has had MPG issues for the past few months - struggles to get 400 miles to a tank

Is there a link to this?
Don't want to start listing questions that have already been asked.

There's a thread kicking around somewhere but off the top of my head he's had it checked for boost leaks (weeping slightly from the intercooler), and replaced the MAF.
Temperature sits bang on 90 so no thermostat or sensor problems (no codes in VAGCOM)
Car was remapped by Topher and he's had a look at it but everything checks out :undecided:
I had a leaky intercooler yet would easily see over 500 miles to a tank even with mostly town driving with a bit of dual carriageway thrown in.
Asif mainly does dual carriageway yet barely reaches 450 miles to a tank
Found a thread about the red turbo pipe

Looks like it was / has been leaking at some point
-
Aye, just looked at tuneside visit.
To me if it's ruled out to be the intercooler, I would start looking at the fuel pump (or is yours a PD?) and it's timing plot. If it's out it will fire too much fuel in, and also at the wrong point on the engine stroke.
If it is down on power, then it would be more of a case of looking at injectors as they are unit pumps and can fail individually.
-
Yeah the 130's are PD engines
-
I would suggest whipping the fuel filter out and having a look then, see if there is any metallic particles in there. If so, would definately indicate an unit injector failure (or approach to)
-
Cheers Rhyso mate, that pipe that was leaking was under the driver side front near the bumper but you'd need to look at it from underneath.
Toph put that back together as it was loose and my MPG went up for a few weeks after my service and fuel filter change butt looks like with that fixed and secured it may have moved to the next weakest link which may be the intercooler.
The intercooler is being checked next week, the MAP sensor will have some logging also.
Fingers crossed once it's all stripped around that area to inspect/change the intercooler if needs be then we'll have a clearer picture of the problem.
Nothing ever shows up on Vagcom with my car for some reason :(
Regards to this question, the reason I ask is because the car stutters quite a bit now in the mornings like it's got low revs and needs a bit more, yet the rev needle sits still and on 900k as it should.
The car also judders on idle now and feels/sounds like it's missing a beat sometimes :(
Car deffo got less poke also and that's with the map.

As per my previous post.
I would suspect that at least one unit injector is beginning to fail.
-
Are injectors expensive?
-
I'm hoping that aint my problem as it looks like it's the intercooler or boost leak in that area fingers crossed.
-
~£100 each.
I thought the boost leak had been ruled out. I would hope it was that, as pipe is usually cheaper to repair.
-
Well it's a possible boost leak near the intercooler, the pipe that was previously loose at the bottom front of the drivers side is now secured but may have moved to the next weakest link which may be the intercooler or i'm hoping a pipe near there somewhere.
I've not checked yet cuz i'm going to see Toph on Wed next week to have a closer inspection on the said area.
By Toph's work so far it's looking like it's either a leak around that area or a leaking/fooked intercooler.
As said before the info on the injectors was to try and understannd if any of my injectors were fooked and if there was an easy way to tell if one or more are fooked.
£100 each ouch, car will be going on the trader if that's the case.
-
Aye, easiest way would be to have a look at the fuel filter then. Ask toph to have a check when you get there, and it should be quite apparent if there is any metal in the filter.
The good thing is you should be able to take them out and detemine which one it is that is breaking down, so will minimise the cost to you a little.
-
Still though £100 each that is well dear :(
Imagine if there are a few that are gone, jeez i'd be depressed :(
-
You can normally pick up a set (4) of 2nd hand ones for around £150
If it is your intercooler then it must be well shagged  as even with a dodgy one on mine, 500 miles to a tank was a doddle and also there was no boost loss showing on my boost gauge
-
Yeah must be well shagged if my MPG is that poor, i'm just praying I don't change the intercooler and still have the same problem, fingers crossed.
If the intercooler is changed and my MPG is still the came i'm gonna feel like torching the fooker, as the intercooler plus fitting is coming in at £210 which is ok if it sorts my probs out but not so ok if I still have my problems.
Didn't realise a fooked intercooler could give you such bad MPG i'm loosing like 150 to each tank, that's driving like a fag, imagine if I put my foot down more often. I'd be better off with a fooking petrol 1.8t at this rate.
Really hoping and banking on my Wednesday visit to the main man Topher/Ben to cure my problems. Kepp fingers crossed for me lads  I'll let you know how I get on :afro:

Well went and got the intercooler replaced as it looked kinda fooked, about 2 inches of gunk at the bottom of the IC so leaking from somewhere.
Can;t tell yet if it's sorted my problem yet as the metal connector pipe on the top of the intercooler now has a boost leak.
Toph said the metal connector doesn;t sit correctly and is a bit loose.
So driving the car last night kinda confirmed I had a leak for sure as it was making a wooshing noise when accelerating and the power was a little delayed and mostly kicked in once the whoosh noise stopped :(
So I now need the metal connector but not sure what the part is and the price, there's another thread asking for the part number if anyone can help me out.
I'm kinda really hating my car right now, I was happy for a bit yesterday when Toph drove my car as it was proper shifting and had alot of poke and picked up really well.
I was really lucky as the new intercooler had a MAP sensor on it aswell so that's brand neqw and the intercooler is also.
Keeping my fingers crossed very tightly now that this sorts my MPG issue otherwise it'll kinda be £210 down the drain, hoping that is not the case.
