I guess if you can find a decent VW dealer then just get them to do it for £162.50 at least then you have a two year warrenty with it.

Got it from Lookers in Teesside, had to take the showroom model due to the time it would have took to order in what we wanted, as i had a car to scrap in on the scrappage deal. Its probably got extras we wouldnt have normally picked, like the camera but tbh, i am glad i have it now lol its on a 59 plate.. Had it just gone 12 months, gunna keep it another 2 year then get a R or an S3.

Tell me more please :-/

When they put back the two halves of the casing, they should mesh in pre-shaped grooves. They very slightly damaged mine. I've managed to fix it myself since.
A replacement new one was ordered as a warranty claim. I checked it before it was installed with the master tech. We both felt it was utter rubbish. Therefore, was not used and susequently returned.

Yes be careful removing and replacing the steering wheel, airbag. Thats a bad design if you have to do that just to fit the switch.

Do you now the code to set it up with VCDS?
Title: Re: MK6 Golf MY11 Cruise Control Retrofit
Post by: The Doc on 20 November 2010, 22:13
FYI, although I'm sure you will already know....

One has to remove the steering wheel to fit the now combined cruise switch / indicator / wiper stalk AND the steering wheel slip ring, both of which need to be replaced to make the cruise function on late 2010 (2011MY for the rest of us)versions.

Go on, what's the VCDS coding that I need to do oh burning bush of information.

How have you found Altincham dealers from a retro fit and servicing point of view?

Title: Re: MK6 Golf MY11 Cruise Control Retrofit
Post by: The Doc on 21 November 2010, 11:23
My opinion is only based on the parts department who are excellent, Ben and Andy really do go the extra mile.

The service department seems fine but I've only been there once to have the cruise fitted which didn't happen, they hadn't replaced the steering column shroud properly but hey ho.

Please bear in mind that ive only done 800 miles so I have not really had a chance to asses them fully!

I'll continue to use them in the future if it's any guide.

Yes and no lol

I'm nearly there I think, but the parts alone have cost over 190 plus vat so far.

I'm waiting for some help with the coding ;-)

I'll win - you know me ;-)

Cruise Stalk but it's different to the old one and comes as one part including the wiper stalk.

Steering wheel slip ring but VW have seng me a used one as it had fault codes in it from a car with much higher miles than mine so they are getting me another one, thought it was strange how they were on back order the other day until December then they had one appear 2 days later!

I'll do it make no mistake it's just frustrating that Vw send out used stock, coded for the wrong car!

Doc I take it you are fond of cruise and have used it on previous cars?
I used to use it a lot on my previous car (Mazda) but the golf just seems so awkward compared to it when using the stalk to accelerate or decelerate. I can't work it out.
Also it doesn't seem to keep to a steady speed the way the Mazda did. Going downhill for example it can exceed what you have set it at whereas the previous car kept the speed constant!!

I've also found I can get a lot more mpg not using the cruise.

I have today just fitted it to my 2010MY Rocco R, all working, not the easiest of tasks.  But achievable, took about 90mins, and involves a hammer and chisel, and removal of the Ignition barrel!

I will post a how-to over the Rocco Cent site, and link it on here.

Parts used were

Slip ring controller 5K0 953 569H

Stalk 5K0 953 502 B 9B

My original Slip Ring Cont was a suffix D, and according to Etka does not support CC.

Hammer and chisel!?!?!? My car was built march 2010 would they be using a such force to retrofit cruise to it? was going to get it done at first service but if it's that much hassle i don't think i'll bother.
Title: Re: MK6 Golf MY11 Cruise Control Retrofit
Post by: stokeballoon on 26 November 2010, 18:08
I over dramatised that bit.  You do have to use a chisel to remove the Shear bolts, but they are not very tight, and move easily.

I used a club hammer, due to not having much room, and wanting to shift it with just a tap.

Then you can remove the Ignition barrel complete with the twin stalk assembly, and then dis-mantle the barrel, and refit.

i used new shear bolts, and just nipped them up so easy to remove, they won't come undone, but not tight enough to shear.

However you could fit standard M8 allen bolts, and they would be fine.

Don't be dis-heartened, and have a go.  It is quite easy really.

Picture of one of the Shear bolts, didn't take too much to shift, which shows in the damage to the head.

Cruise Stalk Part Number Is: 5K0 953 513 M

Slip Ring Part Number Is: 5K0 953 549 B

It seems the problem I had was that the ring I had from VW had been pre-coded to another car

I have a new, boxed Cruise Stalk 5K0 953 513 M here that I'll take 50 quid for if anyone wants it
