Title: Can anyone work this out?
Post by: Obbzi on 26 October 2010, 20:51
Just sold my Mk5 R32 and bought a 57 Golf GT sport 170 diesel.

15 years no claims no points, clean license etc insurance on the R32 was £550 ish.

New Golf GT sport diesel, cheapest quote £750!!!

WTF???

It certainly seems crazy, but I know that insurance has gone up loads in the past 12 months, so if you insured your R32 last year and your GT this year I can see why there's an increase.

As an example, I insured my old Rallye last September for £220, this years renewal was up more than 50% to around £350.

I understand premiums have gone up all the companies I have spoken to keep telling me, its because of the severe winter we had early this year.

Oh well, think of the money I will be saving on fuel, road, tax, tyres etc!

You should try a quote on a R32 this year and see what that would be

I have been unlucky with the increases. I'm picking up my GTI on saturday. I am 27 but have zero no claims, the quotes are crazy. I will be paying around £1,550 with £600 excess
