Awful feeling when it happens. I am really sorry for your mishap.
It's just the inconvenience and expense that is so upsetting.
Once they drain it, it will be as good as new.

2 years ago my mate put £30 worth of unleaded in his diseasel Range Rover Sport. He then realised, filled it up to the top with diesel as it should be and nothing has ever gone wrong with it! 40k miles  later (now done well over 100k) he's just chopped it in for a spanking new one and nothing ever broke on it. not even a splutter!

Thats unusual for a diesel owner. I'm just wondering why you had 3/4 of a tank and you put another 7 litres in. Were you going on a 500 mile trip somewhere?

I would also say just python it out yourself.  Although to be honest I'd think such a small amount compared to the amount of diesel you already had in, you probably won't notice.

Such an unfortunate thing to happen to a really very good guy.

Steve, my friend, you can have my Bridgestones for next to nothing, i.e. if you want the fcukers.

About the worst tyre I have had for grip in wet and cold conditions. Very noisy too with a ride as hard as a bag of nails.

Going to buy Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 225/40 R18 92W XL with rim protection ridge, GRNX.

Sorry Steve for the highjack.

Try the michelins first  - really.
Not sure how you can test drive tyres though.

Honestly, I find my Bridgestones to be excellent tyres. I had had Michelins on my mk 5 and Contis on my mk4, I really don't have any issues with mine.

They are 17"s so maybe that's the reason.

The Alpin PA3s are superb in all weather conditions, are very quiet, have a superb ride but cost a fortune: £265.60p fitted each! Ouch!

Did the old Black Hackney taxis not put some petrol in their tank come winter to stop the diesel freezing in the winter?
I know it has additives now but back when it had nothing in it.

Plus, weren't diesel engines designed to run on crap basically, hence why most of them can run on vegetable oil without any modification?

Steve I'm sure 7 litres wouldn't have done you any harm if you completely filled the rest of the tank with diesel.

I know my work colleague "claims" to have put £15 of petrol in her old Passat before realising it was diesel (she owned 2 Passats 1 petrol 1 diesel!!) then was told by a mechanic just to brim it with diesel and it was absolutely fine.

Take care. CUS.

Keep the tank brimmed with diesel for a few days to reduce the % of petrol in the tank

9/10 out of 10 you'll be fine

Bloke I bought my MK4 off stuck £40 of petrol in it, it cut out on him, syphoned it out, brimmed it back with diesel and the engine was fine.  Did over 60K since it happened

Also change the fuel filter towards the end of this week

its usually petrol engines that seem to choke on the black stuff. Diesel engines seem quite happy to have a little drink of the good stuff from time to time.

I have laughed at so many people who did the same thing over the yrs, I never in a million yrs thought i would do that . The car seems to be runing fine, I have been shi**ing myself thinking the valves are going to go?  :undecided: Do I need to change the fuel filter now , and how much are they?

Hi Steve

Did you manage to sort it out yourself or get the so called experts out?

Funnily enough I went from a Mk5 GT to the GTI so I've been paranoid about doing the same thing.

East Grinsted is down my neck of the woods.... I went to school there.

You would think it would be so easy to invent a petrol / diesel pump nozzel that physicaly only fits the correct fuel type cars. Perhaps I will invent one then and your see me on Dragons Den next year making a complete as*e out of myself

Change it after you've done another 100 miles or so, making sure you keep the tank brimmed

Think they are about £30 or so; 5 minute job to change too

Have a look here:

http://www.misfuellingprevention.co.uk/dragonsden.asp

Especially for oil burners. Diesel nozzles don't fit into modern petrol filler necks if I remember rightly. Nealry did it myself once on a previous car, but wifey was on the ball and screamed at me like a banshee to stop. Still don't know to this day what made her look. Up till then I used to ridicule people who did it  :embarassed:
