Title: ECU reset
Post by: Justins145bhpMK1 on 01 February 2005, 16:26

Ive read a couple of threads that suggest resetting the ecu to try and cure the dreaded juddering/missfiring. Apart from disconnecting the battery is there another way to reset the ECU?? Ie a fuse or something??

I was told that the only way was to disconnect the battery, for at least five minutes. And take the ECU right out so its free from any connection with the car, no earths, nothing!

Thanks LEn, is the ECU easy to get too?? Remove??? Am I going to cause problems by taking it out, ie will it need to be reprogrammed??

If its in the same place as mine (16V) then its relativly easy.

The tricky bit is getting the plastic cover around the wipers off. Once ya got that out from in between the bonnet hinge then its quite easy. And getting that cover back and seated properly, without breaking it! I didnt!

I found the electrical connection a bit fiddly too!
