I noticed the other day that when i have the front wheel jacked off the ground the strut top can be moved all over the place so i checked that the stut cap and bolt were secure and they were. Im not sure if they should be like this cos the other side was nice and solid. Do i need to replace some worn part on the top of the shockers. Ive got coilovers too if it makes any difference.
Also im wanting to upgrade the bushes so that i get better handling but im not sure what i need really. I know you can get polly ones which are harder but i dont know what exactly im supposed to be replacing.
Any help much apreciated.

sounds like the top strut mounting worn. replace this before you drive the car again.
-
Are there any upgraded mounts i can use? I drive the car everyday!
-
from VAG - you can get G60 top mounts, or Passat top mounts which are the same
i just got a set of the Top Mounts from GSF - i went for their dearer ones - they were fine
-
Is there anything such as polly mounts or does it not really matter?
-
doesnt really the matter. the main part of the mount is the bearing in the top mount that allows the strut to rotate free when the wheels are turned from lock to lock
-
I always use VW for top mounts, having seen some horrific top mounts supplied from GSF...
-
aparently you can use mk4 ones, but you can definately use mk3 gti ones which are more heavy duty than mk2 ones as mk3's weight more.
-
dont you have to convert several parts to fit mk3 top mounts? or is that just vr6 ones?
i bought g60 top mounts for mine, seem fine havent had any probs with them. cost somewhere in the region of ?60 from VW. having had bonrath lowered top mounts and GSF top mounts i decided not to compromise......went through both sets in 6 months.

don't think so? but the g60 ones will be more than up to the job. i think the mk3 ones are just a cheaper option than the g60 ones? not 100% on this though.......................
