When i 1st start my motor it is very ticky. I thought that this may be the tappets but when i spoke to a mechanic he said that they are hydraulic and wont need replacing. I dont know enough to know if this is the case. Im due to change my rocker cover for a polished one so thought that this would be the ideal time to do any needed engine work.
Also when the engine is under strain i.e trying to pull in 5th when im only doing 20mpg the engine is makes a very rattle/clanky noise. Ive heard that this could be the timing chain. Any ideas folks on these noises?
The motor is a 16v with a 9A bottom and is very fast and runs great without any smoke.
Also do you think that these are jobs i could tackle myself, im very good mechanicly but have never done any engine work.
