Title: mk1 Cabrio advice *Sorted
Post by: Neo Badness on 21 October 2010, 20:37
Looking at a 1982 mk1 1.5 Cabrio for my other half. My geekdom is more with Mk2's so whilst they are both similar I was wondering if there is anything I should be looking out for?

It's an auto too.

Also does 900.00 sound about right with S/h 100k, T&T?

Cheers peeps

A bit late, but if you are looking at a cab again have a look at a couple of the stickys in the mk1 maintenance section as there are a few threads with links on them that will help you.

No worries, still looking for a car, pref a Vdub. Cabby would be sweet but would have to be non GTi for insurance reasons. Also as discovered the other day whilst test driving a MkII 'rocco, power steering maybe an issue as it's for the other half and she is only wee. So it may be that a cabby (anything based on the mk1 chassis) is out the window too.

So looking for anything but a Golf 3, Passat B3 and polo breadvans...

She is liking the Polo Coupe though

"Coupe" polo's? I didn't find them too bad to find but they all seem to be at the other end of the country  Looked into PAS and it was about 1500 option on the mk1/ cabrio when new  So doubt there'll too many of them kicking about. Apparently they were done using nissan bits and bobs.

Budget is about 950.00 for something taxed and tested within 200miles of Dundee.

Was looking at a B5 passat, but it sold this mornig

Was PAS even an option on the mk1 in the UK (or even Europe?) ? Unless it's been converted I don't think I have ever seen a UK spec mk1 with PAS from the factory. :undecided: I seem to recall that the ones that had them converted were done with Nissan parts.

available i believe in europe but never offered in right hand drive mk1s.
there have been conversions offered but imo the costs always seem to outweight any benefit, the only time you really need PS is when parking in tight spaces.
crazy quiffs are i believe are developing a kit, but if its any sort of steep price, then personally i would not bother

I saw a company retro fitting electric kits.... wasn't cheap though thinking about it but it can be done.  as already said though, don't think the car warrants it overall.

Cheers for the replies guys. Was looking at a B5 passat 1.6, but the guy sold it before i got there

After work tonight the other half is now reconsidering the whole car purchasing, with all the cuts work is looking a bit dicey.  :undecided:

I will put up a proper post if we are hunting for something. I'm going to try and finish the mk2 before I buy anythng else...

Thanks again
