Title: Stage II Boost issues
Post by: alexoc on 21 October 2010, 15:35
I had my GTI remaped a while back, it made 270 bhp after the map and drove really well, no problems whatsoever.

Then I had a milltek downpipe fitted in the search for a little more power, seemed to work well, car felt a bit more eager and a definite improvement in performance but still a very smooth power delivery.

Next up was to get the ITG air intake fitted as I was told it would work well with the map & downpipe, decide to have the car rolling roaded before and after the intake was fitted to see what gains it got (same rolling road as before), so with the milltek downpipe and original remap (stage I) the car put out 245bhp (25 bhp less than with just the map) even though it felt quicker with the milltek downpipe

The ITG was fitted and the car was put on the rolling road again, 260 bhp this time, so a good gain from the ITG. (15 bhp)
The car was then mapped again to take into account the downpipe and intake.

So decided to see how it went for a few days with the new map, but straight away when driving home I started to notice a few 'flat spots' or hesitation at certain rpm's, particularly in high gears at low rpm's under load, now I know a few of you here have stage II and am wondering if any of you have had similar problems?

Seems from what i've read on various forums this problem only seems to be more prominent with an intake fitted, now i'm knocking the ITG, it clearly made an improvement in bhp but for some reason it 'seems' to be the cause of this annoying hesitation, or maybe the mapping needs to be adjusted again :undecided:..........keen to get to the bottom of this as the car pulls well otherwise  :undecided:

It will also happen with just an uprated panel filter, so it's a generic mapping issue when a higher airflow is picked up coming into the car. So not a problem with just the ITG intake.

You need to speak to your tuner about them adjusting the map correctly to handle the boost control issues.

That's what i've been thinking alright, i'm by no means saying it's a problem specific to the ITG intake, as you say seems to happen with any uprated filter.

Is this the same issue people were having with REVO?

Yep same as REVO.

Hope my tuner is using REVO, from what I hear (and you probably know much better than me Steve) REVO have almost completed their stage II map,
really hope to get this sorted asap

You don't know what coding is being put on your car  :undecided:

Who's the tuner?

I would place money on it not being the DV. The MK6 TSI already runs a newer piston type compared to the Mk5.
