It all started on 2nd of december when I brought my 1.6 driver. 5 doors. Loved every minut of it. To make this shorter I bought coilies, bbs's and an exhaust. Then... The top end seized I was stuck with no mk2...
-
Pics or GTFO!
-
Can't put pics when am on my phone. It'll have to wait til weekend :)
-
Iv got a pic of it if you want me to post it on here?
-
Yeh go on then mate and then al just update the story of it.
-
So here we go with Project Neg.... I will let lemski tell the story from here, i am just the camera man  O yeah the sexy white one in the background if mine

Cheers mate. Now where was I, o yeh no engine and needed one quick. Lucky then that my mate brought a 16v zenda round for me to hav a look at and 300quid how could I resist. Couple of days later and in my garage sat the donna car.
I'll have to ad the rest when am at home as I have pics of everything near enough.
-
cool.
is the zender getting stripped? i know someone who is restoring a golf with a zender kit. he might be interested.
-
Av got little bits left, depends what it is he's after.
-
square headlights
-
Mine had 16valve grille and that from a mk2 on it.
-
ok no worries. theirs has 4 small oval lights. looks horrible in my mind but hey ho.
why project neg by the way? what's that mean?
-
Cod my numberplate has NEG in it and my car got named that. Hence project NEG. Lol. its all changin over when the mk1 shell is sourced. :D
-
makes sense!
i heard about the mk1 shell. good find. what you doing with this then?
-
Mk2 shell. Needs new front wings and all that so its just goin. Ne fink people obv want off it b4 it goes I'll sell but I've got a gti boot sat in my shed I was going to smooth but no point now really.
-
give me a shout when you strip it. could be interested in the doors if they are rust free. cheers
-
Yeh I will do and I think they are. :)
-
probably the only thing not rusty on the car    Only joking, to be fare it is actually not that bad.
-
2 front wings and am off for the rat bonnet in the week off just cos I can. :D
-
2 front wings and am off for the rat bonnet in the week off just cos I can. :D
Really, didnt think yu liked that sort of stuff or is this just cause it isnt long before the new project? If you do mate im so up for helping you with the rat look.
-
I don't like it at all but it ads to the look of neg at the momoent. New project its just going to stay looking clean mate.
-
Ok, so whilst you are waiting for your mk1 why dont we do a project neg rat look and go crazy making it look ratty???
-
Patina should never be forced!
-
Peej that sounds like a good idea. But I can only do the rat look on a budget.
-
Patina???
-
That is the ++++++ side of the rat look as it doesnt cost a lot or anything to do. Like for example this look is cool http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RAT-LOOK-Mk2-GOLF-/260679291315?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3cb1b251b3
-
Yeh but am not a fan of rat at all. So I only wanted the bonnet cos everyone wouldn't believe it was a gti then
-
Patina???
patina is what you get when something gets old. look at antique furniture. some is restored to perfection. some is showing its age and use. rat look (to me) is about patina, rather than forcing your car to look like a pile of junk.
pull a golf out of a barn, clean the lights and windows and stick an mot on it = rat look.
getting a decent car and stripping the paint off the bonnet < rat look
-
I see what your saying. I also agree my golf looks aged if you go round it. So I'm now going to have to think about the approach to neg in his last days
-
my old 'rat look' patina barn find rusty golf:
had rust underneath to match :lipsrsealed:
-
  I like this, did you keep it like it??? Lemski i have found you a rat look bonnet but it might need to do a road trip for it and it is dirt cheap.
-
Hmmm we're is it? And I could just do mine though lol. We'll have to decide tomorow when doing exhaust. Txt me what time your comin down n that peej. Also u venturin out tonight???
-
No not tonight as got a fare bit to do so will have to give it a miss  Its in sheffield so not that far really. Well what i was thinking was getting it anyway as i want to have it but let you borrow it until you get your mk1? Im not going to have it on my car, just fancy putting it on when i fancy a bit of the rat look???
-
Nice mate that's a good plan. When do you wanna fetch it then mate?
-
Well weds would be good for me, what about you? it will sooooo good on your car and go very well with you front arches
-
Haha cheers mate and wednesday is fine I'll take neg up.
-
Yeah ok sound like a road trip, if we look to leave early ish then we can fit it too. Maybe some more vids and photos of Neg???
-
Don't know how much fuel that'll use but I'll figure it out. We'll discuss tomorow. See you liked what I put on that post. Haha
-
Bout time for an update. Just remounted the exhaust. Sealed it and put speacers on the rears to stop the wheels rubbin. I'll put the pics up later when am on the comp with the rest of pics from my engine conversion. :)
-
I havent even seen these engine con pics yet so i am looking forward to these ones.

-
On the bbs's they came of my mates e30 bm 195/65/14s absolutly crap. But gettin some 185/55/14s to go on em when there refurbed.
What do you mean can't beleave it. I'de have it like that still if I had my stealies still on it mate haha
-
you must live in a forgiving area road wise.... it will be trial and error for me!
-
Nah I left 10mm clearence as I live in lincolnshire and have to 'race' through country roads everyday to college. I had my wheels pushed all the way in at the top and camber set from the bottom suspension bolt so that I could have it that low.
It took a week of trial and error to get it pewrfect on the front. Backs 135mm wound down though.
-
Good pics, i do like to see that the 2 photos with harry in are of him looking like a numpty   Did you buy it with coilovers already on??? Looks already really low in that pic. mmm there is something missing from neg, o yeah a rusty bonnet
-
Nah 16 valve suspension and zenda kit :D and I'll see if its what I'm looking for or not. Haha. Harrys always a numpty
-
Have you sold your steelies???
-
Went with the other shell to scrap mate y?
-
mmm just asking as there is someone selling a set with good tyres and in good nik near you on ebay. Was thinking of sticking a bid on and using them as winter wheels? Quite like yours, stock look.
-
Pepperpot stealies there good. Can make your golf stupid low with them on aswell. :D where are they located?
-
Well this is the link to them, they are in grimsby. What do you think?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250717373698&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

-

-
Glad to see that people can sleep easy at night knowing that your are hard at work selling your beds   How are your new wheels going??
-
All i can say is that it looked awsome driving off from mine +1 from me   The Neg ratter as i like to call it now
-
I think project rat race is what I should rename it
-
   Like that even better, why has nobody else commented on the new look?
-
I don't think they know what to make of it but the only thing that counts is my mum likes it. But the best thing she said was 'won't the bonnet rust' my reply 'that's the point'
She makes me laugh some time
-
Your mums cool and she knows a good rat looker when she see's one   I am sure people will like it but maybe they havent checked it out yet? We need to get you signiture changed so that it has a pic of it on there. Just read about those dubaholic stickers and they are suposed to last up to 7 years, will the bonnet last that long?
-
It can only get more ratted as it goes along. Perfect bonnet. Am goin to replicate that bonnet for my mk1 when I get it. I have come to really like it. Especially now cos its parked next to a street light and the bonnet really sticks out :D
-
Yeah you need to do what i have done, bye a rat look bonnet for when you feel like that sort of look and then have your original one for when you want the suttle look   We need to get some really sh*t hot pics of it when it is dark and light, is there anywhere near you that is really run down we could do it as this is what will look the best for project rat racer?
-
Yeh umm the old air base outside the hangers and bungers. That would look sick as outside them
-
Ok so it is a photoshoot then. Need a time and date we can do it, next week before we go back to college?
-
Yeh mate will the g60 be there
-
Glad to see that people can sleep easy at night knowing that your are hard at work selling your beds   How are your new wheels going??
Had those scrubbing tonight too! Mind i had a set of cayenne 18's and a4 16's on board too.
The chav 17's are on ebay at the minute. Ending sunday evening so i'll have something different on at the weekend. Probably bbs splits again, if i can get them polished in time.
-
I rekon mate you change your wheels to compensate for the 8valves you seem to b missin. Haha. :p
-
There's another 8 valves in an engine in my dad's garage. In fact i was going to ask if you and kai fancied helping me fit it. .It's an 8v digifant lightened, balanced and blueprinted out of my old track car. My car is k-jet. Is it a straight swap do you know?
Also, do i know you? Hope that doesn't sound rude!
-
No dave you don't you would of seen my car in goxhil when uve gone through. And yours is 16? Or 8v kjet and yeh could do loom should go in if not you have loom in track car don't you? Easy swap. Av done it all. Couple of days max.
-
Cool i've seen neg in the flesh then!
Back tracking now- having seen the car i can imagine the rusty bonnet looking ok!
Both my motors are 8 valve. I've retained loom and fuze box out of track car.
-
Well in that case a few hours of handy work and it'll be running sweet as owt. And dave I knew you'd come round to the bonnet. The sticker did it for you didn't it? Haha :D what should I do to neg next though?
And yes its the red mk2 parked on thornton road, not hard to miss when its there. Haha
-

Yeah... I've done that... Did that when I rewired mine.... no work in progress pics and I regret it now!
-
Yeh I do but. I just focus on what am doing and completly forget bout pictures. Am not use to having a thread about what I do to my car. Its wierd in a way cos everyone on the forum can read about it and u don't know if they like it or not. I know its my car but I want people to like aspects of it. After all how can I enjoy neg if I can't enjoy him with the forum users.

I was the same.. I never planned to be doing what I am now... I bought this car as an almost minter (with plenty of hidden nasty surprises though) and now look at me... a fecking never ending story of me and my biatch! Just do whatever, there are very few haters on here regardless of what you do, just honest opinions, and like you say, its your car............. If you like it and others dont, f**k em!
-
That's true mate. Ne car u expect things to go wrong. I've had that 16v in it 5months as my daily and the fuel gauge stopped working but fixed that. And then the driveshaft but that's not bad for 5months. 1 major problem :)
-
Found this on the bay and thought that you might like it, look at the pic of the parcelshelf, i think we should contact harry and say we have found him a car   Stright swap for the MG, i would defo swap?

Well progress report. This morning on my way to broughton I span out on some mud and demolished the front of my car. (Pics up later) I then got it home and repaired it as much as I could. I have no spare front bumpers any more. I'm back to the original big bumper I bought all that time ago. Haha
-
that doesnt sound too good
-
Nah it want. 50 mph sideways up a kerb and into a verge. Not a good combo. Sumats pushed my wing all the way in aswell but its all sorted. Neg still lives on
-
Everything properly attached. So neg is on the lincolnshire roads again. Haha :D pics later (if I get rounf to it)
-
Well bit of an update. Set my air and fuel up and the 16valve is returning 40-45mpg. Not bad for its age really
-
So a quick update and today had Neg in the workshop to properly mount my exhaust as once again a bracket had broke so it was hanging so low it was scraping on the floor. Not a problem though as it is all mounted on now, jobs a good one. Funny thing though was the fact that when i took it into the workshop i had nearly everyone crowding around it and checking it out, even a lot of people where commenting on how good the rat bonnet was   Anyway heres a pic for those people who like updates without pics
-
does look good in the workshop, think it must be the light though  What i find funny are the irish man, italian man and german man stood at the back of Neg......... think theres a joke here???
-
When I can think of a joke I will post it up :p
-
Good to meet you tonight liam. Sorry it was under circumstances where you were being rescued by a mk 3 but hey ho!
-
Quick update...
Yesterday while I was on my way to broughton I heard a massive amout of knocking. Turns out it was my subframe hanging on by 1 bolt. Not good. Found 1 in the road though so all I needed was to put it back in to get me to a garage for a night seshion. Thanks to mr lewis I limped to the garage. And by midnite neg was ready again.
Thanks again Mr Dave Lewis.

I want to be Scotts mate plus he needs to move his workshop nearer to me!
-
I don't want one that bad...
And you should move closer to us lot. That's not the only ramp I have access to either. There's one round the corner from me.
-
Yeah go on soundillusion move closer to us, we dont bit, well we dont but neg does sometimes
-
U mean b-i-t-e kai and neg doesn't bite if your nice and don't drive near brigg. If soundillusion moves closer then all we need is clipper jay. Haha. That'll be a wicked dub scene then.

Can't do that sadly.... you lucky g1t!
yeah would be a good little scene, where you boys from anyway?
Shaun
-
In the top part of the lincolnshire area, we all live near sthingyhorpe, grimsby and lincoln. That would be a very good dub scene, i do think though that we would all be living single lives as we would always be going round to each other to see if we can come out to play.
-
can I be in this scene? we could make our own "circle"
-
can I be in this scene? we could make our own "circle"
Regardless of location I think its already started. :lipsrsealed:
-
can I be in this scene? we could make our own "circle"
I like this idea a lot and have already thought about this, i think that we should make a regular meet like once a month, however we are not allowed to start these meets until i get my log book through and able to tax my car  I also think we will need someone to be the organisor for it and be able to arrange a location for each meet and post it up on the forum 3-4 weeks before each meeting (i.e make a lincolnshire meet sticky post), think each meet should be a location of a nice pub somewhere?
-
Yeh get it started. Sound illusion you can just come and say ur one of us. :D

Ok sorry to storm your thread Lemski but this is were it all started about arranging a meet, so follow the link below:
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=173044.0
I cant find out how to send it to all the people who are in the Lincolnshire area so i will just have to start like this on the peoples threads i know.
-
Cheers mate I got a load of mk2s in lincs on another forum that are up for it aswell
-
which forum is that? vwwold?
-
No vwgolf forum. But I know the people and there sortin it out on there as am always on here
-
now then kiddie wings (although your probally all older than me), i have decided to put up the pictures from my incedent the other week involving a curb.
first the initial damage
(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h367/lemski18/golfmk2022.jpg)
it doesnt look that bad from this angle, but what hapened to my front grille
(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h367/lemski18/golfmk2026.jpg)
the back end, i spend ages sorting my exhaust and this happens
(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h367/lemski18/golfmk2023.jpg)
and the front end :(
(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h367/lemski18/golfmk2024.jpg)
now after many hours of trying to get it back straight with a hammer i decided my like and brute force would work. (sorry no picture of it back in line) however i did get one of spair bumper 3 fitted.
after all of this i still needed to tackle the exhaust> armed with a jubalee clip and the knowledge of how id fixed it last time (there no rear hanger mount btw). i had sorted it. and neg was back, minus the imndicators.
i then went to my grandads, knowing i had a small bumper indicator sat there from ages ago and my big bumper indicator was still some home in one piece.
so here is the neg as it was on that day after slaving away to get him to his fromer glory (if you can call it that)
and now for a real update, i am keeping neg but also building a mk1, i have some ideas for neg, let me no what you think.
1. comic strip wings with plastic arches back on
2. black vinyl roof
3. 14" bbs' (again but in black)
4. back to small bumpers.
cheers liam
-
Yeah they all sound really good ideas, do like the rat look with small bumpers , have you managed to source out any front indicators? What sort are you looking for as might be able to get hold of some for you.
Holy sh*t :shocked:to the pics, no wonder you where a bit shanken looking at the damage on the pics.
-
MR JENKINGS!!!!
I know mate but sorted now. I rekons I will start my alterations to neg when the money is there. Hopefully some before this meet need to get my bbs's refurbed though when you have the time. What filler do you need for the curb marks?
-
How deep are the curb marks??? You can use any types of filler, the best i found was a special metal filler which costs about £10 a tube but most of the curb marks i will be able to sand and smooth them out. I am wanting to do my ats's soon so if you want you can bring yours down too and we can do both of them at the same time, dont worry i will show yoou what to do to prep them first and spray them.
O yeah forgot to say, you know that neg has been having these little advantages off road, i noticed that my bonnet hasnt been affected or banged etc etc, keep up the good work
-
I think you have the worst bbs at yours mate take it to col and get the wheel off and I'll get the rest in on wednesday for you to do aswell. Umm ur right. The rat race bonnet is still good. No dints yet haha
-
Right quick update am raisin the car tomorow at college so its 100mm all way round. Am also changing another driveshaft as drivers side is going.
And shock horror the bbs's are hetting the tyres off ready for me n kai to refurb. Its all coming together for ye old neg.
-
Damn this snow last night while carpark drifting my exhaust (temp) mount snapped and I'm now going to try and fix it again in the morning before work. Apart from that weather has stopped me spraying my bbs's and my new front wings. Gotta save for insurance now so moneys going to be abit tight
-
Liam liam liam. That exhaust was a temp fix 2 weeks ago! And you've supposed to be a mechanic!
-
Yeh and scott said, and I qoate "we will weld a new mount on next wednesday to sort that and then mount your exhaust properly'
So dave not my fault. I will temp fix it again untill I can get hold of a welder or get to broughton after this blizzard
-
Thats rite Lemski it would never be your fault, how did you break the exhaust temp again
-
Umm might have been sliding round a carpark after an e30 beamer :)
Ne way peej ur g60 doesn't even move atm so you can't comment on my anticks haha.
Whens log book through
-
absoultly no idea when it will be coming, i still need to sort that bloody water flange out as havnt had time to have a go at getting it off again? Starting to piss me off now, need to get it fitted soon as cant even run the engine until it is done.
-
Get a new rad mate. Seems easier. Or drill the old bolt out mate
-
Well did some work for a mate today. And instead of getting 20 quid. Got me some mint subaru imprezza bucket seats. I think that's a bonus. Pics tomorow. And then need to buils some subframes up
-
I'm building my seats up. Pic heavy so people can see how its done. Should b sorted soon if I can get the mk2 runners fitted today.
As I said pics later
-
i didnt quite get round to sorting both seats or owt as it was too cold but am going to my grandads tomorow so i will have at least one seat. 1stly is the seat i have shreadded up.
this seast is now only the bottom metal bit with the runners> the part with the runners is getting cut off tomorrow and brackets to make it fit the subaru seats i know have> than it will all fit into the mk2.
now these are the subaru seats which cost me fixing a mates car.
i rekon they will suit quite well when in. going to buy some red or black harnesses after cristmas and strip out the rear fully (again)
cheers liam
-
They are going to look spot on mate. Have a chat with diamondhell about harnesses though. Apparently they are not as safe as a seatbelt unless you have them strapped onto a harness bar. Can't remember the details but he will fill you in.
-
Okay mate I will do. I was going to put a bar in ne way eventually. Now bad for nowt Is it?
-
Not bad at all dude
-
Do like these, are they the seats from that scubby up the road from you?
-
Nah dif scooby mate
-
Have a chat with diamondhell about harnesses though. Apparently they are not as safe as a seatbelt unless you have them strapped onto a harness bar.
While fitting in some random Subaru seats, using the original seat mounts isn't a terrible idea, it will need to be done carefully, to ensure what you're doing is strong enough that it won't collapse in an impact. How confident are you in your welding? It has to be properly done, not bird sh*t-stylee rubbish.
Unless you are competent and getting sufficient heat into your welds and penetration making up your own seat-mounts isn't something to be undertaken lightly...... it would be a shame to see some sort of Darwin-esque incident involving your Golf and the deletion of a small number of IQ points from the gene pool.
As for the harnesses, really you need 5/6 point, including a crutch strap and for them to be properly effective they need to be tight enough that you can't move about comfortably in normal road driving. If you can then I'll wager the set up you have won't retain you any better than a factory 3-point belt.
If you're going to replace your 3-point belts you need a minimum of 3" shoulder straps. If you go for 4-point harnesses to go with those seats (because there's no crutch strap hole, because they're designed for use with a 3-point belt) then be aware you're at risk of submarining down under the harness, doing a lot of damage to your back especially if it's not properly tightened, because you're 'just driving about on the road'.
You've also got to ask yourself 'what will happen with the shoulder straps in an accident?' because those seats are designed to be used with a 3-point belt, not a harness. The shoulder straps should really be as short as possible and secured within an angle of 0-10 degrees downwards from your shoulders. Is the hole in the seat even designed to accept a harness? I doubt it very much, because - here we are again - they're not designed for harness use.
So, you have a single threaded hole on the outside of the car, which is designed to accept the waist strap on the outer side, but the inner seatbelt mount (the clip) is mounted on the seat frame on the original set up, so when you slide the seat forwards and backwards the whole fixed harness will twist across your body and need substantial adjustment to ensure it's correct whenever the seat is moved.
You'll need to weld a spreader plate on the underside of the tunnel (not the inside) to secure the inner waist strap mounts.
Now what of the shoulder straps? You've got nothing to use in the rear, have you? The top mounts for the rear seats are miles away and off-centre, so you'll be dragged across in an impact. The bottom mounts are way outside the maximum 45 degree angle downwards, plus if you use them, on an impact, as the seats aren't designed to take a downwards force on impact the back rest, the harnesses are going to pull down on your spine and crush it - yay back problems for you. Your only option is to fit a 'proper' harness bar - tubing of the correct diameter across the rear turrets, with appropriate spreader plates to stop it tearing out on an impact.
Even suggesting you could use a strut brace to mount your straps to is utterly laughable. It's designed to stiffen the car, not take any form of impact. You'd be a complete moron to ever contemplate using one as a mount.
So, possibly a little more work than you're expecting and something that is not going to be comfortable, or sensible in a day to day car.
You'd be far better off retaining the standard 3-point belt and getting one of these (http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p6357/CG-LOCK-SEAT-BELT-ADD-ON/product_info.html) for enthusiastic driving.
-
Ahh I see and I'm gettin the seats fully welded up. Using the old subframes. (My mates a sh!t hot welder so he's on the case) as for the harness brace. How thick must it be exactly? Avery thing els is covered.
-

Well, you asked.
-
Yeh but ma mates got the seats in his mk2 aswell and there perfect. He binned his in the summer and the seats didn't collaps or owt so I'll get on with it tomorow. :)
-
as for the harness brace. How thick must it be exactly? Avery thing els is covered.
Do your own research.
So you've covered off the spreader plates on the inside of the tunnel as well?
-
Well is a spreader plate to space out the harness edges off the runners. Like a washer type thing? And a scafold pole type thickness for harness bar? I can get all that's needed from various people I know. And I though advice was suppose to be given. People have different size harness bars. I just would of liked to know how thick exactly. You could of just said to research it all and not offered any help instead of being a nob about it. Am sure your intentions are ment well but if you didn't want to give advise then you could of just said DH.
-
Go on the attack, why not?
A spreader plate goes inside the tunnel and has the nut welded to it, it spreads the load of the pull from the harness.
NEVER scaffold bar anywhere in your car, ever.
I've given you a bunch of information, but why the hell should I spoon-feed you all of the information you need? Go learn yourself some understanding yourself. Look out the MSA's Blue Book for 2011 to understand what you need. You'll come out the other side wiser which will make it worthwhile, instead of being a knob about it.
-
Yeh all I asked for was advise I never said I was ungreatfull. and I will look out for that book. I will scan internet properly for them downloadable book things when am not on phone internet. I've had a bit of a rough day and am just takin it out on people I am sorry for that and thankyou again for the information given.
-
Read this:
http://www.msauk.org/site/cms/contentviewarticle.asp?article=1101
Enjoy.
-
To be fair I wouldn't want to give any more advise tonight after a long helpful response like that... sounds like a feck load of trouble and it's why I am not bothering with harnesses with my new seats for now.
-
here's your answer i think liam. it reads that harnesses should be attached to the rollcage and the spec for that tubing is
1.4.1. Specifications of the tubes used:
Minimum Material
Cold Drawn Seamless Carbon Steel
Minimum Yield Strength
350 N/mm2
Minimum Dimensions (Ø in mm)
45 x 2.5 or 50 x 2.0
38 x 2.5 or 40 x 2.0 (For roll cages/bars approved
prior to 1.1.95).
1.4.2. In selecting the steel, attention must be paid to
obtaining good elongation properties and adequate
weldability.
this is obviously for motorsport purposes but at the end of the day if it is good enough for the track its good enough for mummy's little soldier on the road. we just need to figure out what that actually means before walking into a steel supplier and looking like a tool!
-
DH - cheers al look at that after work.
Soundillusion - nice to hear from you. Am going to price it all up. Mite just keep standard seatbelts depending on price.
Dave - we will have to have a word with scott to see or poss go to scunny to find the metal needed. There will be somewhere that sells it for what we need. Also have to find some stainless pipeing for my exhaust and centre box to be sorted. But I'll txt you tonight about that.
Cheers liam
-
sorry for picking on neg on sunday.
he's such an easy target though
-
Don't matter wishbones done now.

we'' today i put my numberplate back on bumper and tightened the exhaust mount. weather is stopping me getting pics as its too cold for the likings of me but i'll update with pictures of it all when i next do something to the mk2
liam
-
Well. Big things happened today. I decided to get my 16s back on the car nxt weekend. But I want to keep it low and as the 16s are stupid offset they sit at the edge of the arches. So I'd have to raise it. Well I thought about this and decided am going to roll my arches. Backs were ground back to make sure no rust then heat gun and a hammer by my mate ian to got the lips bent in and a slight pulling with a scafold pole. Sorted.
For the fronts I decided that I wanted a nice arch line and also wanted to still go low. So after getting a spare wint to replace mine that was rotted. I set about pulling the lip. (Towel and molegrips), as my technique wasn't good to begin with I had some dimples to sort. Easy though as the filler is needed to go on all arches to get things smoothed. Its not finished buts its good for now. I even lowed the front another 20mm and still got 20mm of clearence on the arch.
Pics up tomorow of all the arches and seats and other things I need to put up.
Cheers to martin and ian for the help today.
Cheers liam
-
mmm somebody has been a busy boy today, well done mate, look forward to the pics. What does it sit like now?? How low are running it?
-
Can u remember when it was at its lowest point on stealies about 10mm higher than that gunna set it low when 16s are on it.
-
no wurries m8 was a good dai and neg has some awsome stance now and it'l be better with the 16's and i doubt it will rub m8 its all gravy baby
-
It won't with my new found arch pulling skills mate. Haha
-
Yeah i remeber mate it was fuc*ing low, good work then. Whe you aroung my area next? Managed to sort out the golf, bit of a bodge job but alls good and then when i get it into the workshop then will sort if properly and do the discs too, really need to update my thread
-
Couldn't say mate at mine this weekend. Umm worki mon and tuesday. Then college. I could swing round wednesday morning befor college mate. Show you the neg. Might not have sprayed wing bu then but o we'll.
-
yeah that would be cool, i am sure i have seen neg in a worse condition
-
Nice one. Look forward to pics.

Looking good mate, cracking job, know who to come to if i need work like this doing
-
i cant take all the credit, ian helped, and so did martin, me n ian went major on the arches, still need a full skim to get them jully smooth and i think am going to pull the back arches the same and drop it the last 15mm on the coillies on the back then wind it down on the front another 30mm. it doesnt look like you could get 30mm but we have measured and you can. haha, but no rust is good. and wishbone is sorted. i told you if i wanted i could have it all sorted by U.D.

Decided wheels on tomorow so will see if they fit snug.
-
nicee 1 m8 i reckon it'l be good u wanna get some pics up when u do it tho :)
-
I will mate
-
Are the rears rolled in and the fronts pulled out? (on my phone so pics are small)
What are the 16 inch wheels?
-
Yeh fronts pulled and rears rolled and slightly pulled. Going to pull them same as the front and the 16s are bk wheels just when I had them before they sat at the edge of the arch. So pull the arches and they will fit.
-
THE WHEELS ARE ON!

sorry about last photo was stood quite far back but zoomed in. i'll get a better one up.
als o much more arch work is needed to get neg where i want him to sit on the stance. bit more front pulling and pull the rears right out aswell to look like the fronts. but fronts are more of a importance as i want them perfect ready to spray. :nerd:
cheers hope you like

-
Yeh mate I'll be there. Haha
-
Looks good. Stance looks spot on. Wish mine looked like that!
Wheels are a massive improvement over the black ones.
-
Stance isn't good enough. Will be by the meet though. Hopefully all sprayed aswell. I'm thinking these wheels black aswell.
-
thinking maybe spray the spokes and centres black just an idea tho may work miyt not

that bonnet looks suspiciously like the one off my old rat 1300, where did you get it?
-
Sheffield mate. Its green on the underside
-
haha knew that was my old bonnet, you'd have bought it off a lad called Damo then, he got it off me. This is the car it was originally on..
-
Kai bought it and it was also in performance vw on a car froma show in the summer
-
Good to see you've got your seats in... Would be nice to see them from the other side though, side view pic with front door open maybe?
You're a brave man pulling you arches out, not quite sure how you're doing it? More info on painting, what's the plan there then?
PS wheels look good but preferred it on black ones. :lipsrsealed:
-
There are many ways to pull the arches. Getting my mate who's a sprayer to spray arches and doors and boot lid all at once and blend it all in. Wheels may be going black. I like em because they stick further out. Makes it feel stirdier mate. I will get that picture angle tomorow, tried through front window but want gunna happen.
Plan tomorow is too pull the rear arches out.

Pic of seats can't be that hard, you saw mine....
I was just curios how you did it as it's something I've never done, only method I'm aware of is using a hammer and dollies.
-
Hwat gun to do the backs to heat metal and dollie. Then a scaffold pole to role lip in.
On the front though I used a thick sheet and mole grips to pull them, not the best way but I new I'd have to fill them to get em even ne way. Then scafold pole again to role a little more and I have seen yours. I will go for side view tomorow. I want my arches more to go lower now its on 16s.

what car in PVW was that bonnet on? Might have been on the gti I bought as a donor as I sold it to the guy that owned that. Just curious as to how much my old bonnet has got about lol
-
Blue with red telidials I think they r mate
-
Yeah it was a baby blue mk2 with red teledials, think it was only a driver too not gti? It is funny how we have managed to come about your bonnet, did you buy it like that or do it yourself as it is a really good job. I will try anf find a pic of the car in the mag and the bonnet on it.
-
It was on my donor car gti then. You'l be surprised to learn the teledials were actually dyno-rod orange and the car was originally atlas grey, then Damo covered the whole car in blue gaffa tape! You would have seen it in that state. He then removed all the tape (making a mess) and brushed the whole car matt black, which is how I bought it, and the mechanicals of it all live in my mk2 now.
I bought the rat 1300 you saw with the bonnet already on it, but wasn't a fan of the rusty bonnet look so bought a black one with a huge vw badge sprayed on it. The guy I bought the car off did that iron cross over 3 or 4 attempts till he was happy with it, he spent a lot of time on it so its not surprising it turned out alright!
-
And its soon to be off my car ready for my next idea. Until kai wants it
-
If you need it off your car mate let me know and i will store it at my mums, or do you mean you are planning something with it????
I really love the bonnet and wanted something rat like that to make my car stand out, only paid £10 for it and i am only putting it on when i fancy a bit of the rat look
-
No when I get my bonnet how I want it kai. Ne way updat smoother arches in and have indicators. Need to sand it all down tomorow.
-
Ok mate not a prob, just let me know when you need me to have it back. Soo what are the plans for this bonnet that you are doing??? Your being a little secretive mate
-
Sorry mate. Haha. Nowt big mate or is it...
No really what it is is, am going black with a red vw sign on the drivers side going onto the wing. But on the wing its going to be black. Then av got some stickers to stick onto the bonnet and my new sunstrip.
Also eventually black vynl roof and alloys done in black. Think am getting rif of ma bbs's al refurb em 1st in black and see though.
-
I have ordered the last part for my bike carbs so when all that arrives all start to assemble stuff. Probally on weekend. Update on arches with pics tomorow.

back to my old bonnet.... does it still have the oil stain on it? I could never work out how the hell I was gonna get that off!
-
Oil stane?
-
Do you mean the stain which i think is in the top right corner????
-
thats the one!
-
Yeh still there
-
I thought it looked like someone had tried to sand it back down again. Not really that bothered by it as it is up in the corner so dont really pay attention to it.
So it is oil that has made it do that? How did that happen?
-
no idea, it was like that when i got the car
-
well its been a while but i have done some stuff, main thing was swapping the rear axle and gettin the stance how i want it so i'll let the pics i got, that isn't many do the talking.

Well project neg is coming to the end of its duties. I have found a 3door and started collecring parts for that.
I am however taking the engine out of him and droppin it into the new one.
As a sort of last send off I went on the rollers for charity. Not as easy as you would think. Lowered cars be weary about rollors.
Doc was great at getting it on how ever.
Now I got 129.7bhp but dint hit a peak at the looks of the print out. Aslso it seemed that it was suckin in hot air.
Sorted the air problem 1st by blocking the warm air pipe from exhaust and gutting the rest of my airbox. Then drilled it wing side and fitted a cold air feed. Few more things need changing when the engine comes out but I will carry on the build thread for it then.
Thanks for reading my boring post
Liam

Neg has now done its last legs. He has done me proud through the year but the dif has now packed in. Engine will live on though in another car
