.... a very very good condition beetle as part ex for my car.
supposidly its had a 4 grand reconditio professionally (prob not the same as dizzie!) and a full respray....
can someone host the pics for me?
Not sure how reliable it will actually be- thats the main reason im getting rid of my beloved golf and so im not sure how reliable this one will be.
Richard
pictures are a bit big, about 140k each.. so view them here .. http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~dv8r/golf/beetle/

email to topher@golfgti.co.uk and ill host 'em for you.
-
I look forward to seeing the pics
-
If you're selling your cab because it's not reliable enough then firstly it's not a very good advertisement for your cab  and secondly getting a beetle is taking a step backwards surely :undecided: I could well be slated here but older cars are less reliable than newer ones and that's a part of life.
-
A beetle can be reliable if it is well maintained and has been restored to a high standard.
I ran a beetle for about 2 years, and altho it did break down, it was not unreliable.

Fair enough Paul, but would it be any more reliable than a well maintained mk1 cabriolet, that's the issue here ? :undecided:
-
Well as i said depends on how it has been maintained / restored.
-
Just my opinion but I'd stick with the cab and find out what the reliability issues are, unless the engine's about to seize up then I'd take the beetle
-
the engine pic is quite clear its been resorted... 4k job is quite alot.... i think it might have had a a new engine...
-
prob a 'vege' one at that price
-
why whats up with your cab hat its not reliable, i was thinkin of offering my my g60 for it plus a bit my way
-
Anybody that spends 4 grand on restoring a Beetle, and btw a recon engine only costs about 800 notes, and then wants to sell it is nuts! So i wouldnt buy a car from them!
Stick to the Cab.
Old Beetles are notorious for electrical fires - so unless its been fully rewired in that mega expensive recon again dont touch it!
-
the cabs just got issues, mainly with the alarm. the problem is it NEEDS to be driven every 3-4 days which currently in my final yr at uni i dont... so the battery goes flat if it isnt driven, the clifford using the juice...
oh well fingers crossed for a buyer... G60 or no G60 dan
-
So does it just need a new alarm? how long has the clifford been on? and ud be interested in my g60 would u?
-
Richard, your cab looks wicked and you've spent a boat load on it, alarm problems are the final hurdle, worst comes to the worst then bite the bullet, rip the alarm out and get a new and better one fitted, how's much is a dogs danglies alarm ! ?400 ? Or swap it for a G60 or whatever but I wouldn't go the beetle route, I think you'll regret it personally. :undecided:

sorry but 4k for a rebuild is nothing. barely scratching the surface. a decent rebuild is easily more than ?4k. a new engine? probably reconditioned and is close to worthless.
if your battery goes flat in 3-4 days then there is something wrong with it and you need to try a new battery.
my 16v is stored for 3-4 weeks at a time, has a battery which is too small - only a bit bigger than an AA battery, is only used for maybe an hour when it is let out and starts first time everytime. i know of other cars like my 827 that can last for about 2-3 weeks before they go flat so 3-4 days is a sign something is wrong with the battery.
-
Maybe I'm just being a d*ck then. I have taken it to a clifford dealer before and they desensitised it, but it still went flat within a week. I'll make a few calls etc...
Im not really enthusiastic about the beetle, however good conditon.
anyone recommend alarm people in berkshire or north west region?
cheers for replys guys  (was or am) hoping to win some awards for show and shine at a few vw festivals this summer!
-
however been sent more pics today... it looks perfect.
can someone host the pics for me please!?!?!
Info fromt the email:
The Beetle has got Black Vinal interior (Looks like Leather) with White piping, Black carpet with black mats, quick shift gears (Gear changes are really close together) and Smooth dash. In 2003 it was basicly turned into a brand new beetle.. everything was replaced and uprated!! The current engine has done approx 500miles but the car reads around 70,000 before the engine was replaced, it's called an AC Super Green 1600cc. I have all the reciepts of Restoration.
I have attached some further pictures of interior and some pictures of the resto for you to view.

send them to me again mate and i'll put them up when i get home, didnt get chance last night.
-
done, thanks mate.
the reason she says she is selling is she wants a new project...... and she wants a straight swap...
-
It looks to be in impecciable condition. . . .

what does everyone think?
-
seems to be missing a stripe and a few 53 stickers.
why would you want an old car though?
-
It is a nice looking c`ar, but i wouldnt swap it for ya cabby imo!
Would be nice to have as a show/weekend car tho.
-
the bug is very tidy..
nice smoothed dash.. but ewww at the euro "elephants foot" lights..
and len.. you can see in the last resto pic that the electrics are all brand new :)
personally not my choice of colour.. i'd get the older lights like my '65 bug had and would remove the wing mounted indicators, get that filled and painted over and get some of those front lights u can get with the indicators built in :)
is it tax exempt?
-
is it tax exempt?
yep..
-
Looks like a damn nice bug but I agree with mix on this one, nice weekend car but not so sure I'd swap for a cabby :undecided:
-
Keep the cab
-
looks nice but i'd never go from a golf to a beetle.

The indicators you are referring to require non up right headlights, which in turn require pre 1967 wings, but they do look a lot better.

Rich, the Beetle looks mint and if that floats you boat then fine.
However like most on this forum have already said, I'd not go from a Golf to A beetle looking to have it a regular car used everyday and still expecting great reliability.
Sure it could well be ultra reliable but if you have any distance to drive on a regular basis I personally don't think the beetle is the right car to do it in. :undecided:
-
PLus from what i remeber the aircooled vws had sh!t heaters which will be no fun when its freezing again come winter, ans that paint is never gonna gonna stay clean
-
this should go to the polls
-
decision made....
found a very good vw specialist in the NW not far from me thats to lewizkid  (you beaut...) seem to know exactly what wrong with all the little faults:
- the oil warning light coming on at idle is the bearings
-going to raise it slightly to stop scrubbing over speed bumps
- fix the horn and get air horn put on
-could be the central locking draining the battery. going to diagnose and new cat 1 alarm to be installed proffessionally is onyl 180 notes- compared with 350 i got quoted by the clifford buggers.
Going to cost me a few hundred quid which is alot. But after that she should be sweet as a nut, and a few bits of bodywork done for the shows in the summer.
Plus im not sure the beetle is me...
Long live the cab!
-
Good man ! You saw sense at last !
-
good choice matey! ?long live the ragtop!!!
-
what alarm is that?? thats well cheap!!! make sure you get the certificate for insurance tho
