Not that I particularly wanna publicise mine as a 1.3 but there must be more than just me on here.
Pics too if you've got some :nerd:

Had mine for the past 13 or so years.....No pictures tho cause I'm shy :embarassed:...and the car is always in a right state!!!
I've been working on a replacement engine (still a 1.3) for about 4 years, but my ideas change from week to week (started attempting a custom inlet for bike carbs about this time last year, now thinking about some sort of injection system....) 1 day I'll get said engine finished and drop it in...
I'm in no rush tho as the current engine is bombproof anyway.....

I own one. 1985 B reg 3 door in Mars Red. My first car. Been sitting in the garage since 1999. Mint shell NO rust. Loathed to get rid of it, but can't be arsed to do anything with it.
Hoping a museum wlll give me call.

I've got a crackin' 1.3. I put an abf in it earlier in the year tho, when the 1.3 finally decided it couldn't take flat out for 5mins every day on a stretch of road I use any longer....
-
abf in 1.3 not a good idea no?
-
Just got my brother one, sick little car :D
-
Suprisingly there are few 1.3's on a GTI forum
-
They do seem a good little car.
There's so much body roll it must be dangerous so GTi shocks and springs are on the cards, once I've got the GTi big bumpers on. I'll get some pics up later on today :)
But the engine does seem bomb proof as said, I've got a duff thrust bearing so will replace the clutch as soon as I can, and it could do with an oil change but apart from that it loves being driven. Mileage is 115,000 so not too bad but it still seems happy to go :)
Bit reluctant to start in the cold (still does every time, just makes a fuss lol) but I think that's a MK2 Golf thing as I can remember my older brothers being exactly the same, and that was about 14 years ago!!
I thought there would be loads of 1.3s on here, but I suppose there aren't many about. 7 replies and no pics, so like I said I'll put some up later for a bit of encouragement :)

I don't think this is a good idea mate....The GTI engine in any guise is loads heavier than the 1.3 and the shocks and springs are designed with this in mind.....if you can, I would advise getting a proper sports kit for a 1.3

Now seems a good time to ask if anyone has put GTi suspension on a 1.3 and what the outcome has been?
Guessing GTi's have ARBs, would getting my hands on some help at all without touching the suspension?
The kit you described sounds good mate, but expensive and aftermarket are two things I'm trying to avoid, especially this close to christmas and I'd like to keep it all genuine parts if poss.

Bosco- abf in 1.3, y not a good idea?
-
no i was just asking was it a bad idea cause im thinking about doing an abf conversion in it sorry.
-
Yeah its a top idea. Transformation at 1st then you start needin more power
-
haha i have a feeling its going to go that way mk2bal
-
What about GTi suspension? Set up for a heavier engine or not it's still going to be tons better than 1.3 suspension?
Got an alarm on mine this weekend cos some f*ck broke into it last Tuesday!

Hi-jacking my own thread now in the hope of saving the little 1.3. If anyone knows where I can get a complete cylinder head with good valves give me a shout! Had a cam belt go on me and the whole head wants replacing! Not good and miss it already! Not drive it since Thursday (4th)!!
Not cool!
-
ive had my 1.3 for over 3yrs now (one in sig) with a 5 speed conversion , and 40mm drop allround, tho it cud do with a gti anti roll bar as they dont come with one

hav u tried re timing it as im sure these engines were designed with the belt does snap there is enough clearance between the valves and pistons

I'll wait and see what everyone else says mate, but I've found a couple already. Between £55 and £75 though. Step Dad says valves are f*cked so I'm not sure. It was totally gutless as the knocking came on so makes sense valves have gone I guess? Who knows.
I'm clueless really so go by what the step dad says mate.
