alot of mk2 owners out there probably using heater controls feed or run a feed to the fuse board to run there ICE correctly but has anyone know of a solution for giving the radio power when the engine is off without sitting on the ignition and burning the coil out :S dont want to add a switch cause ill leave it on and the dam battery will go flat :P i do alot of sitting around waiting and cant leave the ignition on for like 30 minutes to have radio on.

wire it permanant live?
-
ye same problem if i wire it live then the amps stay on perm even without the face attached. why cant manufactors do it like the vauxhall and ford radios where you can use the radio with ignition off with a 1 hour timer :S

What year is your mk2???
My headunit stays on with the ignition switched off until I physically remove the key from the ignition lock then it switches off, mine's a 1991

mines an 89 but, wonder if i could fit a 91 ignition etc..

It sounds like you have your amp wired up wrong mate. It sounds like you have it wired to an ignition live from the car. The amp needs a permanent power source from the battery to its + terminal, a permanent earth to a bare metal chasis point in the boot somewhere and a remote wire which i think you are running to your ignition live (which is wrong). If you have even a basic after market stereo then there will be a wire on the stereos loom called a rem or remote wire, usually blue. This is the wire you use for the rem on your amp. Doing it this way you can wire your stereo up to a permanent live and the amps will only come on when the stereo is switched on.

its set up right its the head unit even with the face removed it powers the amp up only know this cause when phone goes and i turn the radio off the amp sub makes the weird noises still, think its time to get a new head unit, the panasonic can go in the bin :S
i just need a way to power the radio so i can sit in the car with engine off and run the radio without having the ignition full on or a switch im goner leave on when i leave the car, everyother car ive owned has had 3 settings on the ignition the golf has 2 on and off.

The only thing i can think of then is to wire it up to permanent live and put a switch in so you can turn it on and off manually. That or bin your busted head unit and get one that works properly.

lol bin the head is a good idea :D thought about a switch but id leave the head on mute and leave it running when the cars not in use etc... im just a lazy f**ker

buy a portable radio that runs on batteries and use that instead. Or stop sitting in your car alone at night like so kind of pyscho stalker!
