Title: Re: My mk3 gti 16v, busting standard rims
Post by: dazzawest1987 on 12 December 2010, 15:58
today i enjoyed the slight impracticalities of owning a lowered car, first yesterday reversing out of my dads drive my splitter went bye byes,
(http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y379/dazzawest/IMG_0127.jpg)i then drove 200 mile round trip to get some wheels to put on while i refurb mine, thanks snifferdog, had to put wood under the wheels to raise it enough to get the jack under the i take the wheels off to find the tyres i put on less than 5 months ago shagged
(http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y379/dazzawest/IMG_0126.jpg)
on the plus side wheels now on and the car is clean

Your tyres have worn like that due to camber / tracking being out.
Title: Re: My mk3 gti 16v
Post by: tdi_blu on 15 December 2010, 09:08
Looks really well the wheels im sure here BBS as the guy I went to buy it off was telling me how expensive they were.AsWayne said your camber and tracking need sorting I had mine done straigt after the coilovers were fitted as if you dont your tyres last about 10 mins.Like it though looks really nice
Title: Re: My mk3 gti 16v
Post by: dazzawest1987 on 17 December 2010, 07:20
Yea I know tracking out slightly, there's. No adjustment on the camber though is there? Yea the wheels are bbs I tried searching to find out what model they are. Might put a pic on wheelwhores see if anyone on there knows. Goin to make a start on my wheels this weekend got a few other minor touches aswell.
Title: Re: My mk3 gti 16v
Post by: ju571n on 17 December 2010, 08:10
Yea the camber can be out as there is slight play in the shock bolts.. But need doing at a garage so they can read the camber correctly, the slak the bolts off from underneath then push or pull the whell till it says 0deg. then tighten up again.!! :) happy days

Nice looking car tho mate.

Looks nice mate . Not a fan of the bra's personally. Tint the fogs, blanks and indicators and maybe pin stripe the front and rear bumpers?
Title: Re: My mk3 gti 16v
Post by: snifferdog on 19 December 2010, 17:45
Lookin good mate, I like what you've done with the headlights, I might have to have a go myself. Wheels are starting to look good too.
Title: Re: My mk3 gti 16v
Post by: dazzawest1987 on 19 December 2010, 17:53
I did think about the pin stripe look, think I might smooth the bumpers and maybe change the colour, dunno yet though.
Wheels look alot better already all the scuffs a kerbing marks are gone just need to take my time and paint them now.
Pm lazylunatic if your interested in tints, the tints and joey mod ain't that hard to do. Just take your time when doing them
Cheers for your comments

Title: mk3 gti 16v with added pink bits
Post by: dazzawest1987 on 02 February 2011, 13:45
right finally finished my wheel got some tyres and got them fitted, really pleased with them. werent to sure part way through painting them, no they're on though . also painted my mirror covers and rear badge to match. stuck a bit of pink vinyl on the front gti badge. it's a bit off colour to the rest of the pink though so going to try get that sorted before the end of the week.
dunno if you can notice in the pics centre caps are missing, a friend of a friend is making some up for me and should have them back soon, also my red calipers need painting black as they dont match even a lil bit.
front splitter was put on after pics taken will update again hopefully friday with centre caps and splitter

Unique, i like!

Although there is something that really doesn't look right. I think it might be the mirrors.. :undecided:

If it was me, the centre of the wheels would be silver, the grille would all be one colour, the mirrors would be silver and the badges would stay the same.

Good work though! :afro:

Fantastic job on the wheels, what kind of paint did you use for the pink?..... They look great.

I think the mirrors draw your eyes away from the wheels so IMO are too much but other than that, looks great.

Yea can see what your saying bout the mirrors they don't look quite so stand outish in person, know what your saying though considered doing them matt black but not sure yet

Wheels - yes (although would probably look better lower and / or without the GTI arch trims)
Other pink parts - No (Makes it look tacky imo)

For me this is so close yet so far, the rims, if they were the other way round (Black outers / pink centres) i would have said they were wicked.

Would not have done any of the other pink bits tho - maybe the GTI logos on the side trims and thats it

+1 lowered and without the pink mirrors/badges and with pink centres on the wheels and it would look good. To me it looks a bit OTT at the moment :undecided:
Title: Re: My mk3 gti 16v
Post by: dazzawest1987 on 02 February 2011, 22:55
Yea, I want it lower too, the coilovers on it at the mo are pretty corroded so not going to even try
To wind them down will jus lead to problems.
Pink badges will stay not sure on mirror covers at the mo.
Contemplated pink centres and black outers, think that would have been too much though

Right few updates and a plan, start with updates, car didnt sell which i was v happy about, so i ordered and fitted one of those powerchips off ebay, pleasantly surprised definate improvement in the powerband noticably quicker. next fancied a change up front done a deal with LL for some tints in exchange for a rad, and tinted my front fogs, matt blacked my standard grille and fitted that, also fitted my red and black badge to the boot aswell, couple of pics
(http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y379/dazzawest/800dccb9.jpg)
right now the plans ; got a huge crack in my windscreen so that should be sorted first, remove the centre box, interior changes (prob black headlining, pass harness ect.), trim the arches and lower the suspension a smidge more, tidy engine bay. these are plans for the near future and distant future poss respray and engine change, long way off yet though

cheers for reading

So long as they conform to the standards (which Dubmeister ones do) then they are legit. Shame he gave you the fine, when I had German plates on my GL I was ever so polite, I may as well of just asked the officer on a date.  He let me off but said "I know where you live..." I didn't quite know how to take that. :lipsrsealed:

I've been running the UK pressed plates for a total of about 2 years now and not had any problems. :afro:

He's gonna fit new mounts if they're no good I'll get some powerflex mounts.
I expected £80 for the exhaust ended up £90,  minor really was jus annoyed bout the knobby traffic police

then just pulling into my cul de sac a some knobby traffic cop pulls up behind me and follows me in and slaps me with a £60 fine for my number plates (d instead of gb) let me of my windscreen though,

ordered a pair from dubmeister now £40  atleast there legal though he tried telling me i wasnt aloud embossed plates, read up on it and cant see that thats true

100% not legal, gb or euro is allowed, anything else is a big no no.

Thought I'd update this quick, just recovered my rooflining ( first attempt was a nightmare, wrong material wrong glue) Redone it today using black suede material from fabric-online.co.uk and wickes contact adhesive. Took my time took me about 4-5 hours. Also last weekend painted all my trims satin black, looks bang on factory finish, few pics I'll get some more when it's fitted.
How I started (http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y379/dazzawest/a303a5c1.jpg)
(http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y379/dazzawest/cfead353.jpg) (http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y379/dazzawest/0fc71424.jpg)
Hardest part (http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y379/dazzawest/53021c38.jpg)
finished, the jagged edge is a curtain not the roof lining (http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y379/dazzawest/b3598aef.jpg) (http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y379/dazzawest/44f1049b.jpg)

my first attempt was a real cock up, but the material was to thick and the spray glue i used was crap. i changed the type of material i used, i got mine from www.fabric-online.co.uk and changed the glue to wickes contact adhesive and that made it a lot easier, although i still couldnt get the front part right, where the lamp is i kept getting loads of slack. ended up having to cut a slit in the material which fortunately you cant see as it faces away from you.

cheers mate, just need to get round to ordering the passenger harness and it'll be sorted for the time being

Looks like a good job mate, is the adhesive brush on or spray?

adhesive comes in a tin with a scraper, i used a mix of the scraper and a brush

yh i f**ked mine up, whats your technique, as i f**ked the handles up aswell!

done a lil bit at a time and took my time about it, makes a big difference using contact adhesive and thinner slightly stretchy material
