Title: 06 GTI Windscreeen Tint colour?
Post by: Kwok8 on 17 October 2010, 19:43
I got a crack on my windscreen and just booked in with autoglass, but they are asking if the windscreen has a bkue tint to it.  I've not really noticed and it's dark outside now. Is the tint standard on GTI and is it blue?

You'll be lucky if you get a proper VW screen. I'm insured with Admiral and they refused to pay for a genuine screen because the car was over 3 years old.

They assured me that the screen they would fit would be "exactly the same" and "came off the same production line mate".

It's certainly NOT exactly the same, and if it came off the same production line then it must have been a reject......

..........so what if you have the ''orginal'' blue GTI screen ?.No way would you except a cheap after market green one.

Mine has just cracked also, doesn't seem to have a tint to it though so obviously not the original.  Can't imagine insurers will pay for vw glass.

Ignore the nay Sayers . I had a windscreen  replaced due to a chip via direct line and asked for a genuine VW screen....and got one at no extra cost to me.

Really, has it got the VW stamps on the screen? Im VERY surprised to have heard this.

It has all the VW stamps etc and came from VW I.e is a genuine screen.  Check the policy wording. There was nothing in mine that prevented a genuine screen so I insisted on one.

My one says they will provide me with a replacement windscreen and nothing stating that it had to be an OEM one, just that it would be a replacement one. TBH I've had this replacement on one for 2 years now and its been good as gold. The tint is identical and the only way to know its not an OEM one is to look at the stamp.
