Title: instrument lights kapput

just wondering if anyone could shed some light into a little problem i have

the girlfriends gti's intsrument panel and heater control lights don't work, the mile/trip meter and the clock both light up and dim when adjusting the dimmer but none of the other lights work, i have removed the speedo cluster and replaced two bulbs(white plastic) which had blown but still not working. just wondering if there is a fuse for these lights or if there is something that someone knows is wrong.  any help is much appreciated
