hi there just ha d my car in for a service yesterday and they said there was a fault code on the computer saying that the turbo under powering ...has any one had this problem, and if they have what was the outcome ///the dealer said that a new turbo was 1500 quid ..yikks .the car is an 05 ,i have an audi warrenty so fingers crossed im covered
-
boost pressure?
-
This could be faulty diverter valve my car was down on power replaced this and all was ok unlikely to need a new turbo just yet
-
Sounds like insufficient boost pressure to me. As others have said, replacing the DV is your first port of call!
I wouldn't have thought that there would be a fault code of the turbo has some sort of mechanical failure which meant it required replacement (although it might be smoking a bit).
Tell the technician to stop being lazy and check a few simple things rather than rely on the computer.

hi there again any ideas how much a new diverter valve is and is it easy to fit .or is it a dealer jobby
-
A new DV is ~£40, ed30 it's easy to fit but for a standard gti it's a bit harder to get to but still doable with a good socket set.
-
I done mine myself but will need it on ramps unless yours is a later car when they re-located it to a much easier place to get to, I'm sure there is a link to a guide on how to do it on here. If you want a dealer to do it they will charge you just over a hundred quid this is what I was quoted before I done it myself.

........ a good independent VW garage should sort it for a lot less than a main dealer.

hi there went to the audi dealer where i bought my car from to get the timing belt changed and asked if there would test the turbo ,as the vw dealer said there was a fault....test came back fine from audi ,,,,wonder if vw tried to stitch me up
