Title: Dipstick snapped my dipstick!!!
Post by: krhall on 17 October 2010, 10:24
Help!!!

Just out checking the oil and my son managed to snap the brittle plastic top of the dipstick, so part is left round the top but the dipstick can still be removed.

A quick ring around tells me this is either a breaker part or main dealer supply item.

The thing is, can I use the car in this state as there is now no seal on the top of the dipstick whole (sorry for the lack of technical terminology)?

Same happened to me mate.......bought a new one off ebay for 2 quid if i remember!.

All i did was make sure that the oil level was correct then duck taped it all up to seal it for a couple of days untill the part arrived.

No idea mate....you should contact/go to your local motor spares shop and ask them or buy some that they recommend for the car.

Yes but motorbike oil is designed for motorbikes not cars, I would not use it.

Yeah I wouldn't use it either. Go to VW for oil, it's the best and cheapest (£15/5l).
