Post by: DON_GEOVANI on 16 October 2010, 10:08
Ust purchased myself a lovely pd130 with 62000 inn it (02 plate) .the previous owner said it had just had a full service and cambelt (there is a stamp in the book) but there wasn't a reciept to prove it for definite.he did seem a really nice lad and genuine when he said he'd done it but is there a visual check I can make?
Thanks dudes

yes just look at the cambelt and see the condition of it if its new it will be clean and have its VW markings etc on it.. if its old it will develop veins (splits in the rubber) and be much duller..

i cant really tell to be honest, the guy i bought it off said it had a 'full service' before he sold it to me, is it worth ringing the garage that put the stamp in the service book? will they be allowed to send through the receipts and stuff?

depends if it went through the books..i get my car serviced at VW but i pay cash so only get the invoice for parts. There should be a receipt if he bought the cam belt kit though i would be doubtful with no receipt at all.

Get a mechanic to look they will be able to tell you if it's a new cam belt.

couldn't get in touch with the previous garage to ask if it had been changed. is the interval 60k miles/4 years...? if mines an 02 plate and its only just on 62k so its 8 years old shud that imply it will have been done earlier anyway? im clutching at straws cos i dont want to change it if i dont have to lol

mechanic i showed it to said he was fairly happy with the state of it but i just dont like not knowing for definite you kno what i mean!
