HELLO ALL..
yes i am new to your site .. i have viewed loads of posts and the ansewrs all seem friendley .
So i have a question BE KIND TO ME ...LOL.i have a mk3 2.0 8v ( its red if that helps ...lol) i have done a bit to it you know the usual
tinted the windows got a set of 16" bbs split rims ( cost a bit but worth it i think) new cat bact stainless steel exhaust
and even a set of overcoil springs ( suggested to me via a mate) THAT is where my question lies.. is it a good idea to fit the springs to the standard shocker
when i brought it i got 4xsprings and a threaded tube thing (great at explaining huh) so the springs are just half the size of the original springs
the rear fitted ..loose when the wheel is off the floor .
the fronts the same BUT i went down a dropped kirb at about 20mph and nearly bounced into another car .could you explain (to an idiot) why it did this AND is there a soulution apart from buying a set of shocks ..... thanks for your time .

Welcome, you'd be better posting your question in the Mk3 section. I'm a little confused as to what you fitted, did you definately buy coilovers? Or was it a cup kit? :undecided:

hi i will try to find the mk3 section but it took me half a hour to work out how to post .. lol what i brought are vw golf mk3 gti 91-98 lowering coilover springs .
from jap parts in wigan via-ebay they said to me they would go as a direct replacment . they are bloody awfull...

Welcome. Im a bit confused too. Try and get some pics up, always helps people to see what the problem is.

Hi and welcome.

Coilover springs are to fit coilovers....lowering springs could be put on standard shockers but if you have coilover springs on standard shockers I am not surprised it's awful. You need a set of coilovers or a set of lowering springs and shocks but as said pics would help Buddy

Especially ones in which you can vote for every option
Anyway, the Mk3 section can be found by following this link:

Although as Deano said it sounds to me like you've just bought lowering springs??! If that's the case then your original shock absorbers have probably failed as they won't have been designed for use with lowering springs. Your best bet is either uprated dampers to go along with your springs or a set of coilovers.
Also pictures speak a 1000 words

Sounds like he's probably got something like this ...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Golf-MK2-GTI-1.8i-83-92-Lowering-Coilover-Springs-_W0QQitemZ160423756869QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=154910447367&rvr_id=154910447367&cguid=8e1fb8a21280a0e203c02080fecdc4d8
They are designed to fit on OE shocks, as an alternative to standard or lowered springs. Problem is that, unlike conventional coil-overs, they don't have pre-load springs - so when the load is taken off them, they'll be completely loose.
