did some mod to the airbox today but when i remove it there is like a bell shape bit on the side which looks like it should have a tube connected to it but hasnt and there are no spare tubes there is a long one going to the top of the air box and thats it there is a spare nozzle under that too jsut need to know are these important and will they effect the cars performance??

What year is your car.
By the sound of that i think its your vacum hose. If i remember correctly this is connected to a'T' piece on the left, just under the inlet manifold.
If it runs alrite then leave it

sounds like the cold air flap. i limits the amount of air going to the engine when the engine is cold.
i have a cone filter fitted and have blanked of the old vacum hoses so it dont make alot of differance if its not working.

digi engine and yer there is a flap inside the tube on the inside of the box doubt get much cold air from it tho its coming from the engine side be nice and warm from there :P
-
on cold startup the flap opens and makes the car suck hot air off the exhaust manifold. then when the car gets to a certain temp it closes the flap allowing the car onlt to suck cold air from the front of the airbox
its not really nessecary unless you live in somewhere that has drastic temps like -15 degree etc
-
cool cause it isnt working lol :S

Thats nearly right.
If i remember right there is an intake air temp sensor which controls the flap via vacuum from the inlet manifold.
If the intake temp is below a certain level then the flap starts to open, and so opens the intake to hot air from the exhaust manifold shroud.
Agreed its not really necessary in this climate.

cheers all :D
