I just put a deposit on a golf gti 2.0 2 years old then i was told it might be an 8v is this true, why would they put a 8v engine in sucha nice car
-
The 2.0 GTI's are indeed the 8v, its the poorer brother of the 1.8T 20v engined gtis. Same as there use to be 16v vs 8v gtis in mk2 and mk3 guise.
-
I thought i had just brought a really nice fast car and its 8v, does this fade the performance alot, is this still a good car.
-
"All show, no go" is an accurate description. Has all the GTI extras but only 115bhp. In europe it isn't even badged as a GTI because of this. But it's still a VW, and a good car in it's own right.
-
hey dont dis the car lol, its cheaper to insure than the 1.8T.
2Litre is only group 10 and i think the 1.8T is 16.
mine is quite fast, i like it anyway!
-
Nice car but a comfort model, you wont need a stop watch for the 0-60  bit like mine
-
Well guys i lost the 200 deposit on the 2.0 BUT i have broaught a 1.8T Gti mk4 instead it had a little higher miallage (70k) and its 4 years old (1999) but i think i made the right choice i have been told they are 150 BPH is this true. Whats next to MOD on it im thinking Dump Valves but can you turn them off because i have to look professional at work and i dont think dump valves make that statement???
\

Yep it'll be 150bhp, although 190bhp+ is only a remap away  makes it feel much more punchy.
Being a '99 and therefore an AGU engine, you -should- be able to run a blow-off valve without any fuelling issues. You can't turn them off, although its not a bad idea... all it would take is some kind of custom valve/tap to re-circ the air as is originally intended.

Use the advanced search function at the top of the page, and search the mk4 section for words like "remap" "chip" "revo" "jabba" "apr". Plenty of information to be found

My boyfriends mate has a 130bhp tdi, he was well happy with it, until now, the car feels lazy and the turbo doesnt kick anymore, And his sister has a 1.8T and he says my 2L is quicker than hers as hers has no kick from the turbo either.
Are the turbos problems on mk4 golfs?
If not can i slap one on mine? lol
-
They usually arent a problem if looked after properly, if you rag it while cold or shut the engine off while still hot then you're going to knacker it, same with any forced induction engine. You should get your mates to have their cars looked at, something seriously wrong if she says your car feels quicker. You could even suggest something that may be wrong, usual faults like temp sender, MAF, coil packs.. you should have picked up a fair bit by now
There is a 2.0 8v turbo project underway, but it won't be available in kit form for a very long time :undecided:
