Title: ride height, smaller wheels
Post by: Haribo! on 11 October 2010, 23:39
Im considering new wheels and have seen some 14" ones that I like.  Im rolling on 15" at the moment with pirelli p6000 and I have standard 16v suspension.

Whilst I get that my car will be slightly lower as the wheels are smaller, am I likely to notice much of a difference in how the wheels fill the arches?

Basically, I am happy with how my ride height looks but am I likely to be annoyed and want to lower it more with 14" wheels or isnt there much difference?

Not going to see any difference to be honest.

15"s look better.

Lots

15s are the perfect size for the mk2 on your suspension.. 14s or less only work with a crazy offset on a euro golf slammed to fook IMO

In a roundabout way yes.

That about sums it up.

15's with big bumpers are spot on. It's funny how they looked massive back in the day, but now they look just right.

If you drop to 14" you would have to get a bigger tyre profile, so as to not mess up the speedo reading.

I can't see it looking any better with more rubber around smaller alloys...

My Early small bumper GTI has 14" and my big bumper has 15" and I would stick with the 15" TBH...

14" Alloys with Stock 8V suspension...

15" with Eibach springs -40mm on 8v

X4MGS is dead right the overall diameter won't change if you put the correct tyres on the smaller rims. I run 14 steelies in winter and 15 BBS in summer with appropriate tyre sizes (of course) and the BBS are just sooooo much better - pig to clean of course!

well that settles is, seems my worry is justified.

Now to find some nice 15" wheels cause I still dont want my BBS anymore.

Just cleaned them again and they do look nice but it wont last, grrrrr

IMHO... You will find it hard to find an alloy that looks better on a MK2 than an RA....

RM's are nice but cost shed's loads and I am taking mine off for the winter so back to Sq1.... Backto RA's...

I've looked at 1000's of alloys and cant find many I like over the stock ones... Corrado BBS ones are nice but rather rare and still look similar to RA's but with curved spokes.....

If you want to get rid because you're sick of cleaning them then i'm curious what you clean them with?

I used to use wonder wheels but got sick of brushing the stuff in!... now i use

if used regularly its a piece of pi55!.. quick spray, quick blast of water! done! plus its eco friendly too!

and yes i know its bike cleaner.

Cheers mate, il give that a go before I make any dramatic decisions.

Ive been using autoglym wheel cleaner, I was hoping I wouldnt need a brush for that.. but I did :(

If your wheels have weeks of cr@p on them then everyting needs a brush.. i find this stuff to be geat for weekly bi-weekly washes.  i clean my daily once a week, at worst once a fortnight and ths stuff and a pressure washer keeps on top it!...  cleaned the whole car with it once!   :lipsrsealed:  workeda treat to be fair!

I'm just the same....

Washed Every Week and then once a month I take the alloys off and give them a good clean inside and out - With proper alloy wheel cleaner...

I don't find RA's that hard to clean. Shampoo and a wash mit poked between the spoke is all they need as long as they are cleaned and sealed before the winter starts.

Saying that, my car probably wont see daylight till March, so mine won't take much cleaning.
