Title: Bump stop question
Post by: Reasty on 11 October 2010, 20:05
Ok so my mk3 gti is currently rolling on a full koni yellow kit with 40mm lowering and rebound adjustable shocks front and back, and its just not low enough for my liking (altho handles amazingly) so! if i replaced the springs for FK ones that would lower the car 60mm rear and 75mm front would this destroy the koni shocks by them bottoming out? and if i fitted powerflex bumpstops front and rear aswell as the new Fk springs would this prevent the shocks from bottoming out.
I dont really want to destroy my koni's as they where expensive and are very good indeed but i need the car lower and would rather not have to buy coilovers.

Yep Koni's will not cope much beyond 40mm drop, you will kill them in a short space of time.

Thanks for the info wayne  so just to get this straight even if i fitted bump stops to stop them bottoming out it would still kill them?

Yes to be honest, you need shorter shocks to run -60mm.
