Title: intermittent knock in the right hand side front end

hey y'all,
i have a strange knocking sound coming from the front end of my 3 door MK3. it sounds like (but isnt) something is hanging off and bumping along the road. the motor purrs like a kitten so its nothing to do with that. the noise starts after about half an hour of running and seems to be worse when i turn or veer to the right. i have checked in the search section but cant find anything similar. any suggestions? i took it to a local garage but as there was no knocking when he took it for a drive, he could offer no help.
your thoughts would be appreciated.

take it in to a car park and try turning on full lock, one way then the other see if you can hear the clunk, could be a CV joint, would expect you to hear the noise all the time though, gotta be worth a try.

Sounds like the CV. Thats what mine om my Celica was like, jack the car up and turn the wheel by hand, if its the CV you should be able to feel a bit of resistance.
Easy fix if it is that :)

Seems strange it only happens when you warm it up, maybe a gearbox problem

or a driveshaft problem.


I'd go for the CV Joint tho.

Yes but they tend to knock all the time when they are failing.

I agree but not always.

CV Joint is the likely suspect.

could be your gearbox mount. have a check to see if there is any oil around the mount it would be like a brown colour
