but dont buy the ones for a tenner...none of them work because they use a cloned chip or something...my bro's bought 2 of them, and neither of them have worked. If your gonna buy one, dont get it off ebay

No offence Mate but plenty of people on here have bought the ten pound ones and they are using them regularly.

 how the bloody hell they managed that? weve tried with two different cables, and allsorts of different programs and everytime its always reported that it cant conect to the car, or the cable has a cloned chip or some other pish. Anybody got any good "how to" guides to get them working?

Yeah I've got an ebay tenner jobby and it works perfectly well. Sometimes it can be a bugger to install and set up, but eventually it will work. It's worked well since I bought it and it does the same job as the £200 counterpart

apart from free updates and support for life, module coding/adaptations, live data logging and my personal favourite.. a chipset that doesn't destroy airbag ECUs on a regular basis

Does the eBay cable come with the software?
Anyone got a link?

the reason you had probs could be you tried the wrong software with it. the cheapo ebay cables only work with the old 409.1 version of the software and i think the vcds-lite version.

you cant use the latest full vcds version as for this one you need a maore expensivce cable, these have the software licence built in which is why they cost so much

I have both, VCDS HEX-USB and ebay cheap un. Both work fine on the Mk3 Golf.

The free software is now called lite. http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds-lite/download/index.html

The only problem with the unregistered one is that you cannot do a fault code scan, but on the mk3 there are not many modules to choose from, so it's easy.
